Wu Weishan, director of the National Art Museum of China, said that Qingdao itself is a beautiful watercolor painting on earth: blue sea and blue sky, red tiles and green trees, sail films, shadows between the verdants, and bright colors. As one of the first places in China to introduce watercolor painting, Qingdao, regardless of urban style or climatic characteristics, inherently contains a "sense of substitution" of watercolor expression.

As early as the 1920s and 1930s, watercolor painting swept through the area, and through the efforts of several generations of artists, it took root, germinated and grew in the land of Qingdao, and finally formed a magnificent, cheerful and flexible regional style. The development process of Qingdao watercolor painting has witnessed the institutional and social changes of Qingdao city since the 20th century, with distinct regional and contemporary characteristics. Wen Yiduo, Xu Yongqing, Lü Pin... Qingdao has bred a large number of excellent painters, and Qingdao has become a veritable watercolor town.

Especially in the 1990s, a large number of Qingdao watercolor painters based on the cultural context of Qingdao City created a large number of watercolor works with local characteristics and group characteristics, which had an important impact on the national watercolor industry.

The exhibition is sponsored by the National Art Museum of China, the Qingdao Municipal People's Government, and the Qingdao Municipal Committee of the Chinese Political Consultative Conference. The exhibition is presented in Halls 3, 5, 7 and 11 of the National Art Museum of China and will be on display until October 7 (closed on Monday).
