According to the statistics of the forestry department of Hainan Province, when the first large-scale survey of the wild population of Hainan gibbons was carried out in 2003, there were only 2 groups of 13 Hainan gibbons; in 2013, the second field survey recorded 23 groups of 3 hainan gibbons; in 2020, the third large survey recorded 5 groups of 33, and the population of Hainan gibbons showed a good momentum of gradual growth.
Integrate forces and scientific research to help gibbon protection
The Hainan National Park Research Institute is a major innovation in Hainan Province to promote the construction of the National Ecological Civilization Pilot Zone and the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park.
The Hainan gibbon is the flagship species of the Hainan tropical rainforest. According to the person in charge of the Hainan National Park Research Institute, the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government attach great importance to the construction of the ecological civilization pilot zone, actively promote the protection of gibbons, and include the protection of rare species such as gibbons in the provincial government work report.

Under the suggestion of experts, the establishment of the Main Base for the Conservation and Research of Hainan Gibbons, the establishment of a full-time monitoring team for Hainan Gibbons, and the construction of the Hainan Gibbon Monitoring and Management Research Database have been implemented one by one.

Planning leads, and greenery and blue protection are added to a blueprint
Gibbon protection is a vivid microcosm of Hainan's promotion of the construction of an ecological civilization pilot zone.
A good ecological environment is the foundation of Hainan's development. With Wuzhi Mountain, Parrot Ridge, JianfengLing, Bawangling, Diaoluo Mountain, Limu Mountain and other natural protected areas as the core, Hainan connects the existing 19 natural protected areas and surrounding natural forests and public welfare forest areas, with a new protected area of 1959 square kilometers, and the total area of the tropical rainforest national park system pilot reaches 4403 square kilometers, accounting for about 1/7 of the land area of Hainan Island.

Relying on the ancient human cultural sites and beautiful natural scenery of Hainan Island, Changjiang Li Autonomous County not only uses ecological advantages to drive the people to increase their income and become rich, but also promotes the inheritance and protection of Li cultural customs.
Multiple measures should be taken simultaneously to support the development of green industries
Natural ecology is the natural background of Hainan, and in recent years, Hainan has taken many measures to promote green development. According to the relevant person in charge of the Department of Ecology and Environment of Hainan Province, Hainan vigorously promotes the construction of clean energy islands, and the proportion of clean energy installed capacity in 2020 will reach 67%, an increase of 23 percentage points over 2015, and as of April this year, the number of clean energy vehicles accounted for 4.2%.
On this basis, Hainan vigorously supports the development of green industries. In the Lingao Jinpaigang Economic Development Zone, the prefabricated construction industrial park of China Railway Construction Group is under construction. "In recent years, Hainan has vigorously promoted prefabricated buildings. A few days ago, the Hainan Provincial Department of Transportation and the Provincial Market Supervision and Administration Bureau jointly issued the "Special Rectification Work Plan for Prohibiting the Transportation of Disposable Non-degradable Plastic Products From Outside the Province to the Island", and individuals and enterprises that violate the regulations will be included in the credit investigation for joint disciplinary action.
As a national ecological civilization pilot zone, in December 2020, Hainan took the lead in the country to "ban plastics" in the form of legislation. According to the relevant person in charge of the Department of Ecology and Environment of Hainan Province, on the one hand, Hainan grasps the normalization of joint law enforcement, and on the other hand, it has established a degradable plastic technology innovation center to attract powerful research institutions and large enterprises to settle down and develop an industrial chain of disposable non-degradable plastic products substitutes.
