Rice paper, one of the four treasures of Chinese literature, is known as the "king of paper" with the characteristics of "paper life for a thousand years". Not long ago, Guan Qingfang, a special associate researcher of the academician team of academician Yu Shuhong of the University of Science and Technology of China, explored the microscopic mechanism of high strength and high toughness through the study of the structure of rice paper, and was inspired by the manufacturing process and structure of rice paper, and invented a high-performance transparent foldable film with multi-scale structure.
Traditional rice paper techniques have brought new inspiration to modern technology. The film does not form destructive creases when fully folded, and can be rolled up to return to its original shape, with no noticeable change at 250 degrees Celsius. This multiscale film can be an ideal thin film material for precision optics and flexible electronics.
