The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade recently released the "China Exhibition Economy Development Report 2021". The report shows that in 2021, China's exhibition industry will continue to recover and develop, and the number and area of exhibitions will achieve rapid growth compared with the previous year. Among them, a total of 2949 economic and trade exhibitions were held in China, an increase of 48.6% over the previous year.

The report summarizes the development characteristics of China's exhibition industry in 2021: the resilience and vitality of domestic exhibition development have been enhanced, and the regional and industry development has been significantly differentiated; the overseas exhibition industry has suffered a huge impact from the epidemic, and the new digital exhibition model has become increasingly mature; the market size of exhibition halls has continued to maintain a weak growth trend, and the pace of construction of large-scale exhibition venues has accelerated; the first echelon of national exhibitions has played a leading role, and government-led exhibition activities have been held successively.

The report shows that in 2021, the total exhibition area in China will be 92.99 million square meters, an increase of 27.2% over the previous year. Among them, the number of exhibitions of 10,000 to 30,000 square meters accounted for 42.2%, and the number of exhibitions below 10,000 square meters increased by 86.3% over the previous year, and small-scale exhibitions became the best choice for organizers in the context of the epidemic.

From the perspective of regional distribution, East China is in a leading position, with the number and area of exhibitions accounting for 42.7% and 44.1% respectively; Guangdong has the largest number of exhibitions, and Shanghai has the largest exhibition area; Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou continue to lead the development of the national exhibition industry, and the development advantages of the exhibition industry in Shenzhen, Qingdao, Chengdu, Zhengzhou and Wuhan have further emerged.

From the perspective of industry distribution, the number of exhibitions from more to less is light industry exhibition, heavy industry exhibition, service industry exhibition and agricultural exhibition, accounting for 41.5%, 24.7%, 23.3% and 6.3% respectively, light industry exhibition in the number and area of the exhibition ranked first in all industries.

From the perspective of the market size of exhibition halls, the number and area of China's exhibition halls in 2021 will maintain a weak growth trend compared with 2020, and the number of exhibition halls in the country will reach 151, an increase of 1.3% over the previous year. Jiangsu Province has won the largest number of exhibition halls in the country, and the total area of exhibition halls in Guangdong Province ranks first in the country.

The report also predicts that in 2022, China's large-scale exhibitions will develop vertically to the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, and the scope, categories and uses will become increasingly professional; emerging industry exhibitions will usher in new development opportunities, focusing on a new generation of network information, biology, new materials, high-end equipment, new energy and other fields; new consumption field exhibitions will release new kinetic energy, animation, games, e-sports, pets and other types of high-level professional brand exhibitions will achieve rapid growth, sports event theme exhibitions are expected to pick up, fitness industry exhibitions will become one of the future directions.
