Affected by the epidemic, the Jumbo team ended the training camp early

After testing detected a positive case of COVID-19, the Jumbo-Visma team closed their training camp in Alicante, Spain, early.

Team manager Matthew said: "Of course, the appearance of such a scene is also expected by us. In this case, we have decided how to act, and we have taken various measures. Ending the bootcamp is the best option to prevent further spread. ”

The convoy said the infected and close contacts had been quarantined in accordance with the guidelines. Other riders and crew will return home alone or stay in Spain, with little support provided by the team. They tested everyone in the convoy every day, and the infection most likely occurred at home before heading to the camp. Team manager Richard Plugge was unable to attend the camp because of close contact with a COVID-19 case, while Tom Dumoulin also failed to attend the camp after a recent booster vaccination.

The drivers completed their first training session on Tuesday before attending a team showcase and being interviewed by the media following cautious guidelines. Each team trains and eats in different groups, so the number of close contacts is limited.

After a meeting, some riders decided to go home quickly to avoid the risk of being infected and having to quarantine in Spain. Robert Gesink, Sepp Kuss and Tobias Foss immediately returned to Andorra, while Steven Kruijswijk and Primo Rogli drove to Monaco.
