A few days ago, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers statistical analysis, in 2021, China's automobile production and sales completed 26.082 million and 26.275 million vehicles, an increase of 3.4% and 3.8% respectively. In December, production and sales totaled 2.907 million units and 2.786 million units, up 12.5% and 10.5% respectively, production up 2.4% y/y, and sales down 1.6% y/y. Among them, the growth rate of production turned from negative to positive, and the decline in sales narrowed by 7.5 percentage points. Compared with the same period in 2019, production and sales increased by 8.2% and 4.7% year-on-year, respectively, of which the growth rate of production was negative from November, and the growth rate of sales volume was 2.2 percentage points larger than that of November.
In December, production and sales of new energy vehicles reached a record high of 518,000 units and 531,000 units, up 12 times and 11 times year-on-year, respectively. In December, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles reached 434,000 units and 448,000 units, respectively, an increase of 11 times year-on-year.
According to Mysteel statistics, as of January 13, 18 listed car companies have announced December production and sales data. From the perspective of annual automobile sales, due to the low base in the same period in the first quarter, the automobile market showed rapid growth year-on-year, the growth rate in the second quarter declined, the third quarter was most affected by the lack of chip supply, there was a relatively large decline, and the fourth quarter was significantly better than expected, ensuring a good development trend of steady growth throughout the year.
Specific to car companies, SAIC Motor, Dongfeng Group and GUANGZHOU AUTOMOBILE Group still ranked in the top three in December in terms of production and sales. From a month-on-month perspective, the vast majority of car companies achieved month-on-month growth in production and sales in December. Among them, SAIC Motor achieved six consecutive increases in production and sales, ranking first in production and sales; Yutong bus production increased the most month-on-month, reaching 55.33%. It is worth mentioning that BYD Automobile, which has been growing in production for 5 consecutive months, began to decline this month.
However, from a year-on-year point of view, more than half of the car companies in December production and sales have a large decline compared with the same period last year, of which the output of Zhongtong buses fell by 87.25%. From the cumulative year-on-year point of view, the production and sales of 7 car companies have declined year-on-year, and the growth rate of other car companies is also relatively slow.
The China Automobile Association said that in general, under the background of the overall stable and sustained recovery of domestic macroeconomic operations in 2021, the resilience of the automotive industry will continue to be maintained. As an important pillar industry of the national economy, the automotive industry is in a critical stage of transformation and upgrading, and the automotive industry under the change has maintained a stable development in recent years, which has played an important supporting role in the stable and good development trend of the macro economy. Although the current shortage of automotive chips has gradually eased, it is still tense, and maintaining stable growth in production and sales still requires the joint efforts of the whole industry.
