Nowadays, this place has become a favorite place for explorers and tourists from all over the world, and the heat near the pit is full of heat during the day, and the flames in the pit at night reflect the sky, like hell opening the gates, which also makes it a famous local landscape.
But the continuous burning flames in the pit also show that this Karakum Desert pit is constantly releasing natural gas, which is undoubtedly a great waste of energy, some people say that this pit has burned tens of billions of dollars of natural gas in decades, so Turkmenistan officials have been thinking of filling in this pit, closing the "gates of hell", so that the natural gas in the pit will no longer leak, such as in April 2010, Turkmenistan President Berdymukhamedov came here to visit and ordered the cave to be filled, but there is no technology to prevent the leakage of natural gas, so the cave is still burning, it seems that the fire of the "Gate of Hell" is not easy to be extinguished, a fire pit makes a country helpless, this fire pit is also a miracle.
However, on January 7, 2022, the media reported that Turkmenistan President Gurbanguli Berdymukhamedov ordered the fire of the "Gate of Hell" to be extinguished as soon as possible, believing that this fire pit is depriving Turkmenistan of valuable natural resources that could have been used by people or exported abroad to earn foreign exchange, and it is a pity that every day is wasted, so he asked the government to come up with specific solutions to extinguish the flames and make the natural gas there no longer leak.
