Renamed and expanded,"Guangdong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology" was born!

At the end of 2021, there will be new actions in the protection of archaeology and cultural relics in Guangdong, and the Guangdong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology will be officially renamed and expanded.

According to the relevant documents of Guangdong Province, the former "Guangdong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology" was officially renamed "Guangdong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology", and the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism is a public welfare institution at the department level, and the number of 50 public welfare institutions at the original financial subsidy category has been expanded from 91; the main functions have also been expanded from the original "undertaking the investigation, protection, excavation, research and publicity of relevant cultural relics" to "undertaking the tasks of land and underwater archaeological survey, exploration, protection, excavation and research in the province; undertaking the protection of ancient tombs of ancient sites, Ancient building survey and design, etc., undertake cultural heritage survey, cultural heritage utilization and public archaeology and other work."

Renamed and expanded,"Guangdong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology" was born!

In addition, on December 28, 2021, the guangdong provincial major landmark cultural project Guangdong Underwater Cultural Heritage Protection Center project officially started construction, the project site is located in Yangjiang Hailing Island Guangdong Maritime Silk Road Museum west side, Covering an area of about 27,000 square meters, with a total construction area of about 32,000 square meters and a total investment of 350 million yuan in provincial financial funds, south China University of Technology Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., which is designed by Yangjiang Municipal Construction Project Management Bureau and undertaken by He Jingtang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is responsible for design, and is scheduled to be completed in December 2023. The project is a basic project related to promoting the long-term development of underwater cultural heritage protection in Guangdong Province, and after completion, it will become a cultural landmark building integrating underwater cultural relics exhibition, business research, academic exchanges, cultural relics warehouse and business management, and integrate resources with the "Nanhai I" Museum to fully promote the "Nanhai I" Museum to build a world archaeological brand, build a world-class museum, and polish the brand of "Dunhuang on the Sea".
