Game of Thrones Character Review: Queen of Thorns

1. The marriage of the Queen of Thorns

The aristocratic marriages in Westeros had strict hierarchical requirements.

Game of Thrones Character Review: Queen of Thorns

The king's concubines generally married the daughters of the dukes of the Seven Kingdoms, and the eldest daughter married the dukes or heirs of the Dukes of the Seven Kingdoms (except for the marriage of brothers and sisters of the Tangrian Dynasty). The requirements of other princes and princesses can be lowered and they can be related to some princes of the second category.

The Redwin family was a second-class prince of the Riverbend Lands, and Olena Redwin won the grand prize at the age of 9 and settled down with the king's son, Darren Tangrey.

But the marriage was nominal and unreal, and it was not married.

As for the reason for the lack of formation, the two sides have different theories, Dylan said that he did not want to marry Olena because he fell in love with a beautiful man in Gaoting, while Olena said that she felt sick to her stomach the first time she saw Daron, and later felt that Ross Tyrell, the Duke of Gaoting, was very handsome, so she entered Rose's bed.

Olena was the queen of thorns in the high court, and whether what she said was true or not, that style of acting was indeed very much in line with her character characteristics. Anyway, Rose's marriage to the king's daughter was also canceled, and Olena became the hostess of the high court.

This woman, who later became known as the "Old Rose", was known for her poisonous tongue at a young age, and it is said that the courtiers of the High Court gathered and had no scruples in front of The Duke of Ross Tyrell, but as soon as the Old Rose appeared, everyone was silent.

If you dare to talk to this lady, you will be immediately ridiculed to the point of inadequacy.

Therefore, the first time Tyrion saw Olena, he suspected that the Duke of Ross's horse had fallen off the cliff because of his fear of the inside, afraid that his wife was afraid to the point of being overwhelmed.

2. Thorns hidden in roses

After the Duke of Ross fell to his death, he and Olena's son, Mace Tyrell, became Duke of the High Court, guardians of the South.

Known as the "Inflatable Fish Lord", this child was as handsome as his father, but cowardly and incompetent, and from the first day of his succession, he was only the head of his mother's horse, and all the important matters of the high court were subject to Olena's rulings.

When Olena was young, she was also a beautiful rose, but anyone who had dealt with him thought that there were too many thorns on this rose, so she began to call Olena the Queen of Thorns in private.

After the Queen of Thorns took office, she changed the impression of weakness given by the Gaoting family for many years, and appointed Rando Tully of the Land of the Horned Tombs as a general, training a very strong Gaoting team. The Gaoting area is rich in mineral resources, and some of them are money, so this army is well-equipped and has always had sufficient logistical supplies, and it is one of the most capable troops in the Seven Kingdoms.

In the USurper War, the Queen of Thorns sided with the Mad King, with MacE Tyrell as field marshal and Randall Tully as the forward, marching into Robert's Old Lair Stormland, and defeating the rebel forces at Poplar Beach.

The Battle of Poplar Beach was one of the few two victories of the Southern army in the DUO Usurper War, and Randall Tully became famous in the Battle of Randall Tully, but the Tyrell family was the biggest beneficiary. Although Robert later succeeded in usurping the throne and overthrowing the Dragon Dynasty, the Tyrell family was still powerful, and the new dynasty had to give the Tyrell family greater political interests in order to win over the Rose family's strength.

At the time of the change of dynasty, the Queen of Thorns made roses happy through a series of riotous operations, and also established her absolute authority as the queen of the high court, and from then on, the seven kingdoms only knew that there was a queen in the river bay, and did not know that there was a duke in the high court.

3. Cultivate little rose Margery

When Sansa first met Old Rose, she had a wonderful conversation with Old Rose. Sansa did not dare to say much, and told old Rose that the reason for her caution was that she was afraid that her words would be discovered by Varys's little bird and told Cersei.

There are also many little birds in the high court, and I will let it live for a few more days if I am not interesting, and if I am not interesting, I will break their legs----- the Queen of Thorns, Olena Redwin

All indications are that the Queen of Thorns has long begun to lay out in King's Landing, and there has been a lot of cooperation with Varys, Littlefinger, the most outstanding of which is to cultivate the Little Rose Margaery.

Margheri's image temperament was originally designed according to the appearance of Lyanna Stark, for the simple reason that Lyanna was the woman that King Robert had been obsessed with all his life, and the Queen of Thorns wanted to cultivate a Lyanna-style Margaery and send her to the Red Fort to replace Cersei and become the new queen of King Robert.

But this plan was interrupted by Robert's death, and the Tyrell family soon found a new spokesperson for interests among the nobles of King's Landing, who was none other than Lynley Baratheon.

Game of Thrones Character Review: Queen of Thorns

Choosing Lan Li as an object of support, rather than supporting Robert's son Joffrey (Joffrey's identity as a sinner at the time was not made public), exposed the ambitions of the Queen of Thorns, who, like Littlefinger, once wanted the country to be in chaos and wanted to gain more power from the Tyrell family.

You must know that at that time, Lan Li was supported by the two kingdoms of the Land of Storms and the Land of rivers at the same time, and there were 100,000 strong troops under his command, and the odds were very good. Tywin Lannister had to fight on both sides of the Northern River Alliance and the Storm RiverBend Alliance.

If it weren't for Stannis's sinister move to kill Lan Li, the Battle of the Blackwater River might have been a different ending (the regular army of the High Court, commanded by the famous general Rando Tully, would be much more difficult to deal with than the pirate fleet of the Onion Knights)

4. King's Landing murders Joffrey

After Lan Li's death, Stannis was only supported by some of the Stormland's vassals, and the Queen of Thorns did not favor the straight man of steel at all, choosing to cooperate with Tywin Lannister.

Game of Thrones Character Review: Queen of Thorns

Queen of Thorns + Duke Tywin, this combination, in Westeros without dragons is invincible, and their union means a complete strategic failure of Robb and Stannis.

In recognition of the Tyrell family, Tywin gave the Tyrell family a seat at the Imperial Council. The seat was supposed to belong to Mace Tyrell, but the inflatable fish gentleman knew he wasn't up to the task and moved his mother straight in.

My son is an idiot. ---- Queen of Thorns

This is why in the main drama, we see the old rose coming to King's Landing, she has to play a role in the king's meeting, but also to give her granddaughter a platform to guide the little rose how to carry out the palace fight.

The Queen of Thorns wants to send Sansa to the High Court to marry her grandson Vilas, but this goal conflicts with Littlefinger's plot, and Littlefinger tells the Duke of Tywin, resulting in Sansa being accused of marrying Tyrion.

But the contact with Sansa is not meaningless, and the Queen of Thorns learns Joffrey's details and thinks that this mischievous child is inconvenient for her granddaughter to control in the future, so she decides to unite with Littlefinger and murder Joffrey.

Game of Thrones Character Review: Queen of Thorns

The Queen of Thorns was born 228 years after the conquest, and was already 72 years old at the age of 72, but in order to realize the plan of poisoning Joffrey, she did not hesitate to personally fight, taking advantage of the opportunity to approach Sansa, using Sansa's pendant to wrap the poison, and finally sent Joffrey to the Western Heavens in one fell swoop.

Little Rose Margaret is also most likely aware of this, because she and Joffrey are drinking the same pot of wine, and the Queen of Thorns must poison Joffrey while ensuring that she will not harm her precious granddaughter.

5. The hidden skills of the high court

Later in the story, we all know, little Rose inherited the mantle of her grandmother, and was so successful in the palace fight in the Red Castle that she almost beat Cersei to no return.

The Queen of Thorns returned to the High Court to guard the old nest of Tyrell's house.

Game of Thrones Character Review: Queen of Thorns

Cersei does not suspect that the Queen of Thorns has the suspicion of murdering Joffrey, but after Tyrion kills the Duke of Tywin, she suspects that the matter is related to the Queen of Thorns, as she finds a gold coin unique to the Rose family in the secret passage where Tyrion left.

In the play, Little Rose and Loras the Hundred Flowers Knight are killed by Cersei, Tyrell's family is extinct, the High Court is attacked by James, the Queen of Thorns commits suicide by poisoning, and even arranges for the mercenary Boron to become the Duke of the High Court.

This is completely impossible in the book.

The strength of the High Court is not only the ones we see in the play, the Queen of Thorns has cultivated two extremely good grandchildren in addition to cultivating the Little Rose and the Hundred Flower Knights: Garland and Vilas.

Both of them were stronger than his father, both literate and martial, and had seen people, and even Tyrion and the Red Viper were full of praise for them, and their existence could not break the Rose family.

Game of Thrones Character Review: Queen of Thorns

In addition, there are second-class nobles like Hightower and Redwin in the high court, among which the Hightower family controls the Pope and the City of Learning, which is second only to the seven kingdoms, and the strength cannot be underestimated, and it is better to die than let the mercenary Polon suppress as a younger brother.

Such a famous general as Randau Tully (not burned by the dragon in the book) has been leading troops near King's Landing, and if Cersei dares to burn Little Rose and Loras, the High Court army will immediately march on the city.

Old Rose has been working hard for years, playing the level of conspiracy second only to Duke Tywin, and will never lose to Cersei and Jaime.

The Queen of Thorns is less likely to be forced to take poison by Jaime than to be assassinated by Varys's Little Bird.

All the old men of the World of Ice and Fire, including the Queen of Thorns, the Duke of Tywin, the Eamon Bachelor, the Three-Eyed Crow, Jon Aering, Ballystein, Randall Tully, and the Blackfish Brinden, none of them were waste firewood.

Trees grow strange, people grow old, play game of thrones, and young people are never rivals to old people.
