Beijing, January 8 (China News Network) -- On the 8th, the "I Cheer for the Winter Olympics" youth mini Winter Olympic Games painting exhibition was held in Beijing, and more than 100 paintings of teenagers in the capital will be exhibited for a week, and some outstanding works will be given as "special" New Year gifts to the Winter Olympic athletes.
In order to further stimulate the enthusiasm of young people to participate in the Winter Olympics and implement the concept of "athletes as the center", the Beijing Municipal Working Committee for Caring for the Next Generation, the Information and Publicity Department of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee and other relevant units have carried out the collection of paintings of young people with the theme of the Winter Olympics for primary and secondary school students across the country.
Focusing on the Olympic core values of "excellence, respect and friendship", the core Paralympic values of "courage, perseverance, motivation and equality", the themes of world peace, friendship and unity, the students expressed their praise for healthy physique and optimism, their love for a better life and their New Year's wishes for the participating athletes, based on the knowledge related to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, sports, traditional culture and regional features such as the Spring Festival and the Great Wall.
The call for paintings from 3 months, which began on 1 September 2021, collected more than 43,000 paintings from 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, as well as from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Taiwan Region. After preliminary screening, a total of 15,000 paintings were selected from all over the world to enter the judging process, and in accordance with the principles of fairness, impartiality and openness, a review committee composed of experts from the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the School of Art of Chinese Min University and the relevant departments of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee selected 7,500 young people's paintings as "special" New Year gifts to the members of the delegations of various countries (regions) participating in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, sending New Year blessings to friends from afar. Create a strong "Chinese New Year" atmosphere in the Winter Olympic Village.
Wu Gaoshan, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Customs Work Committee, said that he hopes to use such activities to drive more young people to actively participate in ice and snow sports, jointly cheer and help for the Beijing Winter Olympic games and the Winter Paralympic Games, and create a good social atmosphere for the future together.
