【Memory】 The wind comes to thin the bamboo - missing Mr. Guan Lianji

■ Yang Guangzu

In 1993, I graduated from university and was assigned to the Department of Literature and History of the Party School of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee. Guan Lianji is the deputy director, count my leader. The first time we met, he spoke a little harshly. I remember him saying, "It's about the same age as my youngest son, but he's so mature!" "I was shocked and didn't speak. I think, I came from a sheep herding baby, from the countryside, must be a little more mature than the city baby, right?

Later, as the days grew, I thought he was very easy-going, easy,no official shelf, and quite liked him. If you have a chance, just talk to him, he is the first batch of master's students in the history department of Lanzhou University to resume graduate enrollment after the end of the "Cultural Revolution". His mentor was Du Jingguo and Professor Li Shiyue of Jilin University. But Mr. Zhao Lisheng also had a great influence on him, he often mentioned him, and I first heard about this person from him.

He said: "So-and-so has the style of a teacher, but he does not have the spirit of a scholar; Zhao Lisheng has the spirit of a scholar, but he does not have the style of a master. Once, Teacher Zhao severely criticized a graduate student, and later found that he had misunderstood. He immediately ran back to the dormitory to apologize to the students. I listened to it and thought it was very interesting. I like such scholars, and people in temperament. Teacher Guan is also a person with a temperament, who is casual when things happen, and is not afraid of offending people. Once, he accompanied the principal to a meeting in the province, and the principal introduced himself to the provincial leaders: "This is Professor Guan. He immediately said, "Associate Professor." The principal was embarrassed and said, "The level has long been to the professor." This was actually to give him face, and then he said, "Since you have arrived at the professor, why don't you give it?" "The scene was a little awkward.

This is him, Guan Lianji's temperament, or the habit of the Eight Flags disciples. He is the Manchu Zhengbai Banner, the Guarjia clan. After the Boxer Rebellion, Zu Shang came to Lanzhou with Wang Zaiyi of Duan Commandery. Generations have passed, but what is in the bones is difficult to change. He loves Gansu and has devoted his life to the study of ethnic minority cultures, and has published some weighty papers. But he didn't seem to cherish it very much, and he never wanted to collect books. He has written books such as "Fengming Longshan", "History of Silk Road Trade", "History of Hexi Development", etc., some of which are co-authored with others, and some of which are his own, and there are many unique insights. But never sign people and send books. I don't have a copy of his autograph on hand.

Later, I read Puru and found that it was also very similar. As a master painter, PuRu seems to be indifferent to his paintings, very detached. Qi Gong's discourse style, I am very familiar with it, and when I think about it, this is what Guan Lianji also has. He never took his name for posterity seriously, and seemed to have some cynical feelings. In fact, it is probably a kind of transcendent spirit of an aristocratic family.

Once, when the ministry was writing a textbook collectively, I sent the proof to Teacher Guan's house. He glanced at the things and said, "You should also proofread this part of me." "I was also ignorant at that time, thinking about other people's things, why did my school do it wrong?" Just say, "I'm afraid I don't have the ability to school, right?" As soon as he listened, his face pulled, he turned and left, saying as he walked, "You really can talk." "So I came out with a lot of trepidation. But afterwards, he acted as if nothing had happened.

One year, the two of us went to Linxia to give a lecture. He stayed in the room arranged by a friend, which was nice. I can only live in the school. He said to the people: "Dormitory, arrange one at will, it doesn't matter." "As a result, I lived in a very dilapidated house, no bathroom, and had to run out at night to go to the toilet, and it was cold winter and moon. The next day when we met, I got angry and said to him, "You live in such a nice room and put me in such a broken dormitory?" He was stunned, and then immediately said, "Don't worry, I'll tell them later." "Later, the problem was solved completely. At that time, I was still a small lecturer, and I actually gave my direct leader, a senior professor, to speak like this. When I grew older, I also deeply regretted Meng Lang and felt the warmth of Teacher Guan even more. He is a little unsympathetic, but in his heart there is a concept of equality.

In a sense, the personalities of the two of us are somewhat similar, so we are more close.2 Sometimes it doesn't feel like a superior or subordinate, but rather like a year-old friend. I respected him from the bottom of my heart, but when I encountered unfair treatment, I would immediately fight back. He seems to have really done "the goose crosses the cold pool, and the goose passes through the pool without leaving a shadow." Naturally, I am also "the wind comes to thin the bamboo, and the wind passes through and the bamboo does not leave a sound." "They are all short-term soldiers, but they do not remember revenge." But I'm afraid he doesn't completely mind, right? Once, when we went out to a meeting and talked about something, he suddenly said, "Guangzu has a backbone behind his head." I was stunned, and then I just smiled.

Later, the school institutional reform gave me a Chinese office director. Afterwards, he said to me, "I know you never want this, you don't look for us, and you don't look for it." I was silent. Then he said, "Just give it to you." "At that time, I was just over 30 years old and still a lecturer. This is the highest position in my life, and I have not grown a little in the future. I think he'll be happy too. In his later years, he served as the deputy director of the Ministry of Culture and History who presided over the work for many years, and he has not been corrected, and he is also very calm. I didn't think he would be missing anything. Mencius said, "All things are prepared for me." Liu Yuxi said: "Gentlemen live in it, why are they ugly?" ”

In 2000, I visited Peking University and returned a year later. Suddenly, he said, "Guangzu was reborn." "When I first heard this, I felt like I was being met with a great drink, and I unloaded a lot of things at once. Soon, I became involved in the study of contemporary literature and opened columns in Gansu Daily and other places, which was very well received. Once, the teaching and research department got together for a small gathering, and after dispersing, we walked home. He said indignantly, "I didn't expect you to finally find your way." "I was speechless for a moment, and the lights were in a trance on the street late at night. Today, I am more than half a hundred years old, and I am still on this road.

Teacher Guan is not willing to trouble others, nor does he have much contact with people. After he retired, we would meet on campus by chance and have a few conversations. Later, when he went to Beijing, he never had any contact or meeting. He died in Beijing on August 31 last year at the age of 77. Suddenly, I learned that he had died, and I was momentarily devastated. "A gentleman's heart appears when things come, and his heart goes with emptiness." I think that Teacher Guan is a master of people, and he may have seen through life and death long ago.

But months later, I still miss him.

When you think of him, you will understand warmth and what to let go.
