Since all his family members were killed, Guo Wei was very important to Chai Rong and made him the King of Jin and cultivated him as a successor. In 954, Guo Wei died, and Chai Rong successfully succeeded to the throne, which was later Zhou Shizong, this year, Chai Rong was 34 years old.
After succeeding to the throne, Chai Rong made a great wish for 30 years, that is, to use 10 years to calm the chaos in the world, 10 years to make Cangsheng breathe, and 10 years to make Houzhou enter the prosperous world. After the young and powerful Chai Rong made his vows, he began to work towards his goal. During his reign, after the great defeat of Hou Shu, the three conquests of the Southern Tang Dynasty, the Northern Expedition to the Liao State, the internal efforts to govern, the selection of talents, the reward of farming, the construction of water conservancy, won the unanimous praise of the people.
As if he were jealous of talent, the emperor who made a grand wish for 30 years died 6 years after he succeeded to the throne. In April of the sixth year of Xiande, Chai Rong personally led an army to the Khitan tribe, and after only 42 days of dispatch, Chai Rong's soldiers did not have a bloody blade, so they took three passes and three prefectures in a row, a total of seventeen counties, and the defenders of the city all surrendered. Just as Chai Rong was preparing to take advantage of the victory to pursue and capture Youzhou, he suddenly fell ill and had to hurry back to the dynasty, and on June 19, Chai Rong died.
