Conte: I prefer to sign short contracts and I am open to improving the situation at Tottenham

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte said he prefers to sign short contracts to prevent his salary from becoming a burden on the team.

Conte says he prefers to sign short contracts, but he thinks his contract with Tottenham is long enough to help the team solve their problems. Conte painted a dismal picture after losing to Chelsea in the League Cup – he said Tottenham were far from the best teams in the Premier League, describing Spurs as a "medium" team and warning they would take a long time to solve the team's numerous problems.

However, Conte only signed an 18-month contract that included an option to extend it, earning around £13m a year, which also sparked speculation about whether he would have long enough time to fix the problem.

Conte insisted: "I don't need a long contract to work for a club. I'm open to improving the situation at Tottenham, I can offer my opinion, my vision and a short contract won't be a problem for me. ”

"The club has to appreciate my work and then extend my contract, but only if I show the club that they are worth it. I'm not a coach who wants a multi-year contract, and that's also unfair. Because I know very well that I am a top coach and for the club I am worth their salary. ”

'I don't want the club to commit to a multi-year contract for me because I understand that salary is an important expense for the club and I have to be worthy of that contract.' Conte also confirmed that Son suffered a leg injury against Chelsea and will be sidelined until next month.

Son will miss their next five games, starting with Sunday's FA Cup but also including the second leg against Chelsea and the Premier League against Arsenal, Leicester and Chelsea.
