
On 7 October, Benin's Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Dosuhuy, and Benin's Minister of Industry and Trade, Assuman, participated in the celebration of the Third World Cotton Day at the Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Azuman said Benin tops the list for cotton production in Africa, with 713,000 tonnes last quarter and 800,000 tonnes expected this season. It is expected to reach 1 million tons in the next two years. The cotton industry has had a positive impact on the people of Benin, with cotton output exceeding $180 million in the past few seasons. The development of Benin's cotton industry has benefited from a series of measures by President Tarlon, including sectoral restructuring, increased cotton production and facilitation measures for investors in cotton processing.
