Two farmers from Norway in the 19th century

Ski jumping originated in Norway in the 19th century. In 1860, two farmers from the Drammen region of Norway performed a leap from the stage at the inaugural ski competition in the town of Christiania. In the same year, Sandra Nordheim, born in the village of Mayedar in the Telemark region of southern Norway, skipped more than 30 meters without a pole, a record that has been maintained for more than 30 years, and he is known as the founder of skiing for inventing the snowboard fixture, also known as the "father of ski jumping".

Historical origins

The official event of the 1st Winter Olympics

In 1924, at the 1st Winter Olympic Games, ski jumping became an official sport, and in 1936 the Winter Olympics added a women's event.

In 1988, the team big jump was included in the Competition of the Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada for the first time.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, women's ski jumping became an official event. Norway, Finland, Austria and other countries are powerhouses for ski jumping. Among them, the Norwegian team has won a total of 11 gold medals and 57 medals in the history of the Winter Olympics, which is the country with the largest number of gold medals and medals in the history of the event. Finland followed suit with a total of 10 gold medals.
