French regulators fined Facebook and Google 60 million euros and 150 million euros respectively

France's National Commission for Freedom of Information (CNIL) issued a january 6 notice saying that the agency decided to impose a fine of 60 million euros on Facebook and 150 million euros on Google for not complying with the relevant provisions of the data protection law.

The reason given by the CNIL is that users need to click multiple times to turn off cookies when using the above-mentioned company products, and only one click is required to accept them. The CNIL believes that complicating the rejection mechanism is tantamount to rejecting cookies to the user instead, thus clicking on the "Support" button.

In addition, the CNIL noted that Facebook's path of presenting information is not clear. The notice pointed out that the information presented by Facebook about "turning off cookies" is easy to confuse users.
