Nvidia previewed a series of new Studio laptops at the CES online conference yesterday, and Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of the company, said that in a specific workflow, they can be 7 times faster than Apple's latest MacBook Pro.
Studio Series Notebooks are NVIDIA-certified high-performance professional mobile workstations that use NVIDIA RTX series graphics cards for high-load applications such as professional video production, 3D animation, graphic design, and more. Unlike Apple and Microsoft, NVIDIA Studio laptops are not produced by the company, but from asus, MSI, Razer and many other third-party manufacturers.
It is reported that the new Studio laptop series in 2022 will offer the option of RTX 3080 Ti or RTX 3070 Ti graphics card. The RTX 3080 Ti will come with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, and Nvidia claims that it is even better than the Titan RTX used on desktops, making it the fastest laptop in the world. The RTX 3070 Ti is not inferior, and it has a 70% improvement in performance compared to the RTX 2070 SUPER.
In the launch, Nvidia detailed the importance of 3D designers and modelers in the future, and how their Studio laptops are specifically targeted at this type of professional creative.
In one presentation, Nvidia compares the RTX 3080 Ti laptop to the M1 Max MacBook Pro and RTX 3060 laptops, and in several popular 3D modeling applications, the Nvidia model is significantly ahead of Apple, up to 7 times more efficient. NVIDIA did not mention the data on video editing performance, and believes that there will be more comparative information in the future.
It is reported that starting in February, Asus, MSI and Razer's new Studio series laptops will be launched one after another. In addition to using the latest RTX graphics cards, the final performance of the product depends on the configuration of other components. NVIDIA did not specify which specific model was used in the test, nor was there information about its thickness and weight. But what is certain is that these notebooks are very suitable for professionals like film and television producers, and of course, it must be very powerful to play the game.
Nvidia also revealed that in total, more than 160 laptops equipped with the new GeForce RTX 3000 series graphics cards will be launched, serving 3 billion players and tens of millions of content creators worldwide.
In addition, Nvidia has also released two new graphics cards. One of them is the RTX 3050, an entry-level desktop graphics card for the average user, which offers several features of top-of-the-line graphics cards such as ray tracing, artificial intelligence, and video acceleration, starting at just $279 and going on Jan. 27. Of course, given the current situation, the price will definitely be speculated.
The other is the RTX 3090 Ti, but it has only been revealed, the price and listing date have not been announced, and more information is expected to be released next month.
Back to the previous topic, how much of an advantage can the new Studio series laptops have over the M1 Max in terms of video editing performance? This conference did not say, after all, it is not the protagonist of this conference. But since the M1 Max is anchored, I believe that more information will be released in the future. Waiting for the official release of a new batch of Studio products, according to the convention, we will see a performance comparison chart between the two sides under professional software such as Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
