Williams: Russell is a team player

Williams team manager Jost Capito believes Mercedes will have a driver who knows what he wants but puts the team's interests first.

Williams: Russell is a team player

As part of the Williams team, Russell spent three seasons in F1. Starting in 2022, Russell will be part of the Mercedes team, the biggest challenge of his career, and he will be paired with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes had a stable and harmonious driver relationship during hamilton and Walteri Bottas, but it remains to be seen whether Mercedes' vibe will be affected with Russell's arrival.

However, Capito's words suggest that Russell doesn't just think about his own race, and he spoke about the British driver's mentality that has always made him think about the needs of the team at Williams.

Capito said: "I think George has a lot of respect from all the players, he is very demanding. He wants to make a difference in the car, he really works hard and he always works in a very positive way. He would tell me bluntly what he wanted, what he expected, and I think that was a really good attitude from George. In terms of personality, Nicholas (Latifi) is very similar to him. Everyone loved working with them and they also had a great relationship with George and Nicholas. George is a really great team member and he wants to be the best he can be, but he also always thinks of his teammates. ”

Capito mentions the Hungarian Grand Prix, where Williams finds it possible to compete for points through Latifi, and Russell tells his team over the radio to prioritize Latifi and that he will help if needed.

Capito said: "He thought about the whole team and also about his team-mates and I think his personal attitude is fantastic. ”
