On the last day of 2021, we took stock of the unmissable numbers on this year's PGA Tour for our golfers.
513
In the 2021 PGA Tour season, Ren Set a record for the most birdies and Eagles in a single season – 513 in total. The previous record was set by Steve Fletcher in the 2000 season (509).
50
Of the 458 Grand Slams, spanning more than 160 years of history, Mickelson, 50, is the oldest champion. In the past 500 days, Mickelson has finished in only one top ten on the PGA Tour. That's the victory of this Grand Slam. The victory made Srome the first player in PGA Tour history to win the title spanning 30 years. His first PGA Tour win came at the 1991 Northern Telecom Open, 30 years, 4 months, and 10 days after he won the 2021 PGA Championship.
20
At the top of the Hijay Cup, Rory McIlroy won his 20th game on the PGA Tour, becoming the second youngest (32-year-old) non-American player to reach this milestone. The record holder is Harry Cooper, born in England in 1904, who won his 20th PGA Tour title at the age of 31. Since 1960, just seven players have won 20 PGA Tour games before the age of 33: Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
14
There's nothing more heart-wrenching than collapsing in the final round. In the PGA Tour's record for the past decade, only 34.2 percent of golfers have retained a 54-hole lead or tied lead to win. This year, between the May Skasin Challenge and the North American Trust in August, 14 consecutive PGA Tour events featured a 54-hole victory in which the leader was reversed, the longest record in the past 30 seasons.
14.58
BMW Championship, but the protagonist is Patrick Cantley. Cantelli took 21 putters of 10 feet or more in the game, the most in a single game since data records began 15 years ago. His putter score for the week, +14.58, also set a record for the number of statistics.
6
At the 2021 Grand Slam, Louis Urschuren has won the lead or tied for the lead after the single round of the Grand Slam 6 times, unfortunately, he has never touched the trophy. Since the 1958 PGA Championship was changed to a matchmaking tournament, Uchyen was the only player who had taken the lead or tied the lead so many times after a single round of a Grand Slam, but had not been able to win any Grand Slam that season.
2/8
In sharp contrast to Louis Uchyen, Colin Morikawa embarked on a hanging-like journey to win the title. This summer, he won his second Grand Slam victory at the British Open. Morikawa won just eight Grand Slam games in his career, the fewest of any player's game since the inaugural Masters in 1934. When it comes to players who have won their grand slam twice in fewer games, it goes back to the last century: Walter Hagen (Game 6, 1919 U.S. Open) and Gene Salasson (Game 4, PGA Championship 1922).
-12
Two rounds after the Players Championship, Justin Thomas, who trailed Lee Westwood by eight strokes, knew he needed a historic performance on the final 36 holes to get into the competition. He really did. Thomas shot a -12 over the weekend, tying the record for the lowest number of strokes on the last 36 holes in players tournament history. In the end, thomas, 27, became the second golfer to win the Players' Championship, Grand Slam tournament and double-digit PGA Tour title before the age of 28. The first is Tiger Woods.
-27
Playing cards without the usual routine seems to be the routine of Bryson De Chambord. At the BMW Championship, he and Patrick Cantelli reached the final round with the same 3-stroke lead. Unfortunately, in the end, Cantley won first on the sixth overtime hole, and Deshambo mistakenly won the championship with a total score of -27, becoming the first person in PGA Tour history to play -27 on 72 holes and not win the championship.
