Nansha Port Railway started construction in October 2016, for the national I. class, double-line electrified railway, the design speed of 120 kilometers per hour, the total length of the line is 89.24 kilometers, the line from the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Railway Yayao led out, through Jiangmen, Foshan, Zhongshan, Guangzhou 4 cities, and finally to Nansha Port District, bridge-tunnel ratio of 90%. In July 2021, the passenger transport function was jointly approved by the State Railway Group and Guangdong Province.
As the first passenger and cargo double-track railway to enter the Territory of the Nansha Free Trade Area of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Nansha Port Railway is also an important part of the freight corridor in the western part of the Pearl River Delta, and will successfully open up the "last kilometer" of land-sea combined transport in the Nansha Free Trade Area after completion, build a three-dimensional transport network of port, railway and road multimodal transport, and build a land-sea intermodal transport corridor with Nansha Port as the core, build a strategic fulcrum of the Maritime Silk Road and the Silk Road Economic Belt, build a Nansha Free Trade Port, and enhance the function of Guangzhou shipping hub. It is of great significance to promote the coordinated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The Nansha Port Railway will mainly undertake the tasks of import and export foreign trade packing and collection and transportation in the southwest and central and southern regions, and the freight prospects are broad. According to the preliminary forecast of the railway department, the near-to-long-term cargo dispatch volume of the nansha port railway line is 20.7 million tons and 28.8 million tons, and the arrival volume is 11.5 million tons and 17.8 million tons, respectively. Many enterprises along the route, especially lingang enterprises, can more quickly transport coal, ore, steel, cars, home appliance plates, grain and oil and other bulk goods through the Nansha port railway, and through the Nansha port railway, they can also open freight trains from the Nansha port terminal to Europe, which will greatly reduce the logistics costs of the port area collection and transportation and the port industry, fully demonstrate the status of Nansha port as a land-sea intermodal logistics hub, and provide strong support for the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
