"Slime" GI review 7 points: even if the creativity is insufficient, the performance is flat and stable

The beginning of The Gunk gives me high expectations, driving the ship into a rolling nebula in the universe, and the beautiful opening animation seems to hint at a huge pattern. Unfortunately, this short clip is the climax of the whole skit game.

As a colorful game full of alien mysteries, Slime's performance is surprisingly bland. Fortunately, this space game avoids thunderstorms with cute characters, solid gameplay, and up-to-date stories.

The protagonists of Slime, Rani and Becks, are two brave and impoverished space porters. They land on an unknown planet, eager to find valuable resources to pay off their debts and gain enough capital to spend the rest of their lives. Players will operate Rani, boldly explore this unknown world, scan unknown life for data, jump between steep cliffs and huge leaves, and finally clear away the slime that is trying to destroy the entire planet.

Becks stayed by the ship, but the communication instruments built allowed you to travel back and forth between different areas and ships, facilitating communication between the two captains, which reminded me of Star Cowboy and Firefly, the protagonists of which are also fearless space travelers who are busy with money. While having companions isn't a bad thing, it also highlights the game's formal problem: the lack of a unique element.

Everything I encounter in this adventure reminds me of other works, and in most cases, other works are even better. After the first encounter with the so-called slime material on the planet and sucking it up with my own robotic arm, I recalled "Luigi's Mansion" again.

As for the other features, whether it's lowering a vine to open a shortcut, shooting a glowing button to open a locked door, or harvesting a planet's plants to get crafting materials, it feels cookie-cutter and unintended. Although Slime has a familiar and comfortable gameplay experience, it doesn't have a new feature and presents a memorable experience.

Despite being reminiscent of other great episodes and games, Slime has never reached the same heights as these sources of inspiration. The colorful alien landscapes fail to impress, and the ground always has an unsaturated look. The original mucus-infested gray environment has not been cleaned up into a vibrant exotic oasis, and this boring aesthetic design makes the visual impact greatly reduced, not only can not make people shine, but also makes the process of cleaning up the area unhurried.

In the dialogue-filled cutscenes, the character model's lip movements resemble lifeless puppets, and although they sound nothing wrong, they look awkward. Running, jumping, and shooting feels fluid, but occasionally gets stuck by modeling the surrounding environment, a bug that causes characters to hang helplessly in the air, making them angry. In addition, plants and rocks often reuse texture maps, but these problems have not prevented me from continuing to explore and complete tasks on the planet.

Speaking of missions, first of all, the missions of this game are quite straightforward. Gather enough resources on this planet to repair my super-suction mechanical prosthetic arm, and at the same time find all kinds of valuable things. However, the adventurous Rani had to eradicate the sticky substances that threatened the ecology of animals and plants in one fell swoop.

Uncovering the mystery of the origin of slime puts Rani at loggerheads with the pragmatic Becks, who doesn't want to waste their precious and scarce supplies to solve other people's problems. The core conflict of this story gives enough reason to get me through one linear area after another.

Despite all the criticisms offered, Slime is still an admirable work. The portrayal of the relationship between the characters supports the entire plot, there is a wonderful sense of satisfaction in sucking up the slime, and there is no error in the gameplay mechanism. But I still hope that this game world can be more distinctive and perfect.

The entire planetary ecology could have been made into a vivid kaleidoscope, stuffed with brilliant hues and grotesque forms, but unfortunately it failed to achieve this goal. To sum up, Slime is a qualified space odyssey title, but it is not a particularly good game.

conception

Clean up the harmful substances that devour the entire planet, and loot the resources and wealth of the way.

scene

Despite the promising extraterrestrial concept, the final product, combined with a dull color scheme and rough materials, is lifeless.

sound

The game's soundtrack is generally average, but the gags between the characters are fun.

Playability

Clearing up an area of slime and removing obstacles to the planet's ecology rejuvenating is a satisfying way to play.

Entertaining

Players who have traveled countless times will probably not find surprises, but Slime has designed enough gameplay and puzzle solving in a short process to maintain player interest.
