We say that in addition to the rubber aging speed, the most important criterion for judging the service life of the tire is the depth of the tire pattern. We know that when the car tire is new, the pattern depth is generally 7 to 8 mm. With the continuous accumulation of mileage, the pattern will be more and more shallow.
We also know that the biggest role of the tire pattern is to ensure that the tire can still have a stable grip and not slip in the rain. Because the water on the road surface will be introduced into the grooves of the pattern, and then "thrown out" as the tire turns (this is the tire's ability to "throw water"). The shallower the pattern depth, the worse the ability to "throw water" and the lower the safety factor on rainy days.

I've always said that Tesla belongs to the kind of company that "usually seems to be nothing remarkable, but from time to time it can poke you in some details and make you clearly understand that you feel different". They recently thought about the question of "how to let the owner know the wear of their tires at all times" and gave a solution.
On December 15, Tesla announced a new OTA upgrade with a software version number of 2021.44.5. After users complete the system upgrade in this version, 2 brand new "Easter eggs" are waiting for you to discover! They are: active noise reduction, and automatic detection of tire wear. The former need not be said much, while the latter is powerful: it can detect whether the tire is worn and whether the depth of the tread pattern is too low.
What's more, the system can also detect if there is a difference in wear between the tire and the tire (e.g. the degree of wear on the front and rear wheels). If the amount of wear is detected to be different, and the value reaches a certain level, Tesla's car machine will remind the owner that "it is time to do the front and rear of the tire"...

Although the media and Tesla have not explained the specific implementation principle, any small partner who understands the principle of the car should guess, in fact, this function is not complicated at all! ——It is nothing more than using the "wheel speed sensor" to read the precise speed of each wheel in real time. This speed is then taken and compared to the speed of the "new tire" state.
The more the tire is used, the more worn it gets, so the total diameter of the tire is getting smaller and smaller (although we can't see it with the naked eye, we can measure it!). The tire diameter is smaller, and at the same speed, the wheels roll faster! ——Speaking of which, I think everyone should suddenly realize!
As for how to judge whether the front and rear wheels are the same degree of wear" is also based on the same set of principles: measuring the precise speed of the front wheel and the rear wheel respectively! If the front and rear wheels wear the same degree, then the speed should also be exactly the same. If the front wheel rotates faster, it is obvious that the front wheel is worn more than the rear wheel... Simple enough, right?!
It's simple enough! And simple enough! But why didn't other car companies think of it??? I have to say that "inspiration" cannot be described by technical accumulation, and it is often an unintentional flash of inspiration. - Of course, the accuracy of this principle is not very high, but it is enough.
German horses have long had more advanced solutions
Let's make it even more powerful: as early as 2018, the German horse brand came up with an extremely accurate technology, they installed a special "rubber thickness sensor" inside the tire to monitor the total thickness of the tire tread rubber in real time. In this way, you can accurately judge the wear of the tire.
Basically, the general principle of this sensor can be understood as "special radar", electromagnetic waves in special bands penetrate the rubber, and then detect the actual thickness of the rubber.
