Celtic Knot, a masterpiece of topological art by medieval island priests: 1 Introduction

Ladies and gentlemen, young and old! In the next zhang big less.

When Celtic art is mentioned, many people think of intertwined knots. This was actually the last element of Celtic art to appear until the 6th-7th centuries, but it did become a prominent feature of Celtic art in the Christian era.

The use of knots is very flexible, whether it is a woven geometric pattern, or a casual free form, it can be used. The Celts hated empty space, and knots were an ideal, flexible space filling. The effect of the knot is to create the feeling of the belt being woven, possibly from the basket. One line can be woven into a complex and beautiful pattern.

Knots can be woven into any pattern, but there is only one rule to follow – interspersed up and down. If one strap passes underneath another, it must press on top when it encounters the next, and so on. For some flower types, it is not so easy to follow this rule, and sometimes compromises have to be made.

The triangle pattern in the image below is the basic shape in the Celtic knot. Anyone who knows mathematics will know that it is the simplest knot in the topology knot theory - the trefolium knot. The Three Leaf Knot was used in the emblem of Asia Television in Hong Kong from 1990 to 2007.

Trefolium knots often appear alone and often serve as the infrastructure for many complex flower patterns. For example, the following three knots, where the structure of the left and right two knots is the same, but the shape of the lines is different.

The knot pattern is the ideal lace pattern and only needs to repeat the basic pattern. There are also patterns dedicated to corners and finishing.
