National Health Commission: Vigorously develop medical equipment suitable for the elderly

On December 28, at the press conference of the "14th Five-Year Plan" Medical Equipment Industry Development Plan (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan"), Qi Guixin, a first-level inspector of the Department of Planning, Development and Informatization of the National Health Commission, introduced that the "Plan" made key arrangements for the needs of health care services for the elderly. The "Plan" clearly states that we must vigorously develop medical equipment such as health care rehabilitation and intelligent assistance that are suitable for the needs of the elderly. For example, encourage the systematic, customized and intelligent upgrading of traditional health care rehabilitation equipment such as massage, traction, and rehabilitation aids to better meet the individual needs of the elderly; at the same time, accelerate the research and development of new nursing and rehabilitation equipment based on robots, intelligent vision and voice interaction, brain-computer interface, human-computer interaction and intelligent control technology, and develop intelligent equipment such as intelligent rehabilitation robots, intelligent mobility assistance systems, and multimodal rehabilitation wheelchairs, so as to provide better assistance for the daily life and travel of the elderly.

In addition, the "Plan" clearly states that new medical equipment at the home community level should be developed. Explore embedding medical and health perception equipment in health buildings such as homes and public places in the living areas of key groups such as the elderly and chronic diseases, so as to achieve real-time monitoring and evaluation of personal health information, and carry out intelligent disease early warning and active intervention.

The "Plan" also proposes to promote the integrated development of home communities and home medical and health care. Promote the construction of new mechanisms for information sharing and coordination and linkage of medical institutions, third-party diagnosis/testing centers, medical and nursing care institutions, and home communities, carry out pilot projects for the combination of remote collaborative services for the elderly health and medical care, explore the construction of a new model of medical and health services that integrate prevention, diagnosis, treatment, health, care, and nursing, promote the extension of medical and health services to communities and families, and actively support the promotion of the organic combination of medical and health care and the improvement of the basic old-age service system.

Qi Guixin frankly said that the current range of medical equipment products suitable for the needs of the elderly is not rich enough, and the medical care services are not convenient and diverse enough. In particular, China's aging population is facing a large base, fast growth rate and other outstanding characteristics, by the end of 2020, China's elderly population over 60 years old reached 260 million, the next 5 years of 60 years and older elderly people will grow at a rate of about 10 million people per year, the number of elderly and disabled dementia continues to increase, the demand for old-age services continues to grow, and the contradiction between supply and demand of old-age and health services in China will be further highlighted.
