The technical details of the Webb Space Telescope are big public: how big it is

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, December 28, New Media Special Telegram According to the Spanish "20 Minutes" daily newspaper website reported on December 24, the James Webb space telescope is too big to be folded up and launched, and then unfolded in space, like a giant origami. It weighs more than 6.2 tons, roughly equivalent to a school bus, and one of the main components is a main mirror composed of 18 hexagonal lenses with a diameter of 6.5 meters. It also comes with a giant "parasol" that is 21 meters long and 14 meters wide, about the size of a tennis court.

Because of its size, the telescope had to fold up to accommodate the limited space on the rocket. Just like origami, the main mirror section will fold up, as will the heat shield, antenna, and solar panels. Once in its orbit, the telescope will unfold. (Source: Reference News)
