Build a safe and controllable automotive supply chain system to solve the problem of card neck such as "lack of core and less soul"

Abstract: Promote the development of the industrial chain in the direction of deep integration, jointly enhance the ability of independent innovation, and work together to promote the complementary chain, solid chain and strong chain

On December 25th, the annual voice of China Automotive Industry Development (TEDA) International Forum was held in Tianjin. This is the annual closing event of TEDA Automotive Forum, focusing on the theme of "integration and competition - the power of change", industry leaders, senior executives of automobile companies and industry experts summarized the industrial development in 2021, judged the future trend of change in the automobile industry, and provided think tank support for the high-quality development of the automobile industry.

Under the general trend of automobile lightweight, electrification, intelligence, networking and sharing, the connotation and extension of automobiles are constantly enriched, and the supply chain is also extended, and the automobile industry urgently needs to break through the boundaries of innovation. Since the global pandemic of the new crown epidemic last year, the sequence of production, division of labor and cooperative supply chains formed in the context of globalization in the past few decades has exposed its fragile side in the face of the new crown epidemic and frequent natural disasters.

In the face of a more complex development environment in the future, An Tiecheng, secretary of the party committee, chairman and general manager of China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co., Ltd., proposed that it is imperative to build a safer and controllable supply chain system, and relevant participants need to further promote the development of the industrial chain in the direction of deep integration, jointly enhance the ability of independent innovation, and work together to promote the complementary chain, solid chain and strong chain.

The chip supply crisis exposed by the automotive industry since last year fully shows that there are still technical problems in the supply chain of the automotive industry, and it is necessary to adhere to innovative development and strengthen deep integration.

According to the latest data released by AutoForecast Solutions, as of December 9, the global production reduction caused by lack of cores in 2021 has reached 10.272 million units, of which the Chinese automobile market will reduce production by 1.982 million units in 2021, accounting for 19.3% of the world.

Build a safe and controllable automotive supply chain system to solve the problem of card neck such as "lack of core and less soul"

Yang Zhongping, deputy secretary-general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, believes that the lack of cores is the main reason for the lack of cores in automotive chips. First of all, the gap between China's semiconductors and the international advanced level is obvious. Although domestic chips have a certain degree of competitiveness in terms of packaging testing and chip design, there is still a big gap compared with international advanced in terms of product technology, process technology, and on-board application. Especially in terms of process technology, the gap from the international advanced level is large; In terms of design software, companies rely heavily on design tools provided abroad.

Second, the automotive and semiconductor industries are not coordinated enough. Automotive chip products are in strict condition, with long certification cycles and high input costs. Existing automotive semiconductor companies, parts suppliers (Tier1), and vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) have formed a strong binding supply chain relationship, which constitutes an industry barrier for new entrants, and domestic chips lack the opportunity for on-board application of technology iterative upgrades.

Third, there is a lack of domestic core Tier1 enterprises that connect the two industries. Domestic auto companies rely heavily on international large-scale parts groups in core parts technology, electrical architecture, supply system, etc., lack of core components like Bosch and Continental, which are very familiar with automotive electrical architecture and very familiar with chips, Tier1, lack of traction for domestic chip applications, and there is "intestinal infarction" in the intermediate links between chip supply and chip on-board.

Therefore, it is necessary to actively promote the integration and development of the automobile and automotive chip industries. First, domestic automobile industry enterprises should dare to get on the car to try first and use domestic chips first; second, multi-party integration and innovation, master the initiative of advanced chips under the electrification intelligent architecture; third, layout and development of third-generation semiconductors, and strive to achieve synchronization with the world; fourth, on the basis of adhering to independent innovation, strengthen cooperation with foreign advanced semiconductor companies to create a good ecology for semiconductor development.

An Tiecheng also pointed out that it is necessary to provide greater application space for local chip manufacturers and create an independent automotive chip industry chain.

In addition to chips, Zhu Yanfeng, chairman of the board of directors and secretary of the party committee of Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd., said that in addition to the current traditional industrial chain, with the rapid increase in the penetration rate of new energy vehicles, it is necessary to accelerate the improvement of the guarantee capacity of key resources such as lithium, mercury and nickel, and strengthen the localization layout of key areas such as operating systems.

At the same time, under the rapid development of electrification, intelligence and networking, the automotive supply chain has also ushered in a strategic opportunity for innovative development. The automotive industry is gradually shifting to the development model of "hardware + software + services", and software and services have gradually become new profit points in the automotive industry. Jin Xianghua, deputy director of the Management Committee of Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone, pointed out that it is necessary to pay attention to the reform of profit model and build a new ecology of smart travel.

According to industry agencies, by 2035, the profit share of vehicle sales and spare parts will drop from the current 64.8% to 46.6%, while the profit proportion of intelligent networking and mobile travel will rise from the current 0.8% to 27.4%. The "software + service" sector, represented by intelligent network connection and mobile travel, is expected to usher in a new space for development.
