Tesla: One less cool feature

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla no longer allows people to play video games with built-in displays when the vehicle is moving, a change that will be pushed in a new software update.

Earlier this month, when foreign media tested Tesla's Passengar Play feature, several Tesla arcade games could be played while the car was on the move, and a warning popped up on the screen saying that only passengers could play the game while the car was running, as well as a button asking for confirmation that the player was a passenger.

The problem is that there is no effective mechanism that really prevents drivers from playing the game by pressing the confirmation button while driving. The executive director of the U.S. Auto Safety Center said, "There is no reason to think that there is no danger [of this function]. ”

NHTSA said in an emailed statement that Tesla told the agency it would change the feature. The agency said in a statement: "The Vehicle Safety Act prohibits manufacturers from selling vehicles with defects that pose an unreasonable risk to safety, including technologies that distract drivers from driving safely." ”

Regulators have been paying a lot of attention to the automaker over the past year. After Tesla repeatedly hit a parked emergency vehicle, authorities launched an investigation into its self-driving function.
