China's quantum computing superiority experiment was selected as one of the top ten advances in international physics

On December 21, the Physics website of the American Physical Society announced ten major advances in the field of international physics in 2021, and ten research results such as the "Zu Chong No. 2" and "Jiuzhang Ii" quantum computing superiority experiments completed by Pan Jianwei, Zhu Xiaobo, Lu Chaoyang and others of the University of Science and Technology of China and NASA's "Parker" solar probe flew over the sun's coronal layer for the first time, and the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory found that the behavior of the elementary particle Muzi and the Prediction of the Standard Model theory were shortlisted.

On October 25, the famous physics journal "Physical Review Letters" published two major achievements on quantum computing by the team of academician Pan Jianwei of the University of Science and Technology of China. Among them, they successfully built a 66-bit programmable superconducting quantum computing prototype "Zuchong No. 2" to achieve rapid solution to the "random line sampling" problem, tens of thousands of times faster than the current fastest supercomputer, making China's first superconducting quantum system reach the "quantum computing superiority" milestone. In the photonic system, on the basis of the world's first "nine chapters" optical quantum computing prototype that has reached the "superiority of quantum computing", they have developed the "nine chapter two" with 113 photons 144 mode, realizing the phase programmable function, and solving the "Gaussian Bose sampling" problem is hundreds of millions of billions of times faster than the current fastest supercomputer, once again refreshing the world record.

This series of achievements has made China the only country in the world that has reached the milestone of "quantum computing superiority" in both physical systems. The American Physical Society commented that the research team of the University of Science and Technology of China stood out from the competition with Google, IBM, etc., provided convincing experimental arguments, and demonstrated the superiority of quantum computing in their superconducting and optical quantum computers.
