Lai Ning (October 20, 1973 – March 13, 1988), formerly known as Lai Lin, was a native of Asbestos County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, and a second-year junior high school student at Asbestos Middle School. On March 13, 1988, in order to extinguish the sudden mountain fire, save the mountain village, and protect the safety of the television and ground satellite receiving station, he took the initiative to join the fire fighting team, and was killed after fighting in the fire for four or five hours, at the age of 15. In May 1988, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the State Education Commission awarded Lai Ning the honorary title of "Heroic Teenager".

At about 3:30 p.m. on March 13, 1988, Laining finished his homework and said to his mother, who was sick and bedridden, "I'll go downstairs and take a walk." Mom specifically instructed: "It's windy outside, don't go far!" Descending the stairs, Lai Ning saw the soaring flames at a glance. He didn't even have time to tell his mother, so he quickly went straight to the fire. Laining ran to the mountain and waved the pine branches to extinguish the fire. Twenty or thirty meters high, the flames burned wildly, and Lai Ning and his partners rushed to the sea of fire again and again.
The fire was finally extinguished, more than 3,500 acres of forest were preserved, and satellite TELEVISION stations and oil companies were safe. On the morning of the 14th, people found Lai Ning's body in the overheated forest belt on the southern slope of Haizi Mountain. His right arm was clutching a small pine tree, his forehead was against the hillside, his glasses were missing, his left hand was on the ground, and his right leg was still in an upward climbing posture.
However, the heroic deeds of the little hero Lai Ning, who was unfortunately killed by the mountain fire, have been deleted from the textbook. Lai Ning was born on October 20, 1973 to an ordinary family in Asbestos County, Ya'an, Sichuan. Like all other children, Reinin is smart, cute, lively, curious about the world, always has some strange ideas in his head, and likes to explore the world in his own way.
Since elementary school, he has been rated as a good student every year, a veritable good student with excellent character and learning, and the pride of his parents. He is willing to delve and explore, not only academically excellent, but also outstanding in other hobbies.
Whether it's calligraphy or painting, he's very good. He had the innocence of a child and the profound knowledge of a scholar; he liked to read books and newspapers, and he also liked to carry a hammer to the mountains to knock and beat, find all kinds of stones, and know all kinds of flowers and plants.
After graduating from elementary school, he was given the opportunity to guarantee secondary school, but Laining refused, and he decided to take the unified examination. So among the more than 5,000 primary school students in the county, he was successfully admitted to the local key middle school with the first result in the county.
In the 1990s, Lai Ning served as an example for Chinese students throughout the world to learn the spirit of "seeing righteousness and courage". However, after entering the 21st century, Laining has been downplayed.
Laining became a vehicle for a spiritual force, and if we ignored or concealed his juvenile identity, a minor, we would still be moved by him. It can be seen that what we value is the spirit of benefit embodied in Lai Ning, and we will never advocate that children and young people sacrifice their lives to see righteousness and courage, but we must also encourage children to cultivate the noble character of seeing righteousness and courage from an early age, and encourage them to see righteousness and courage within the scope of their ability. This is an eternal value pursuit with universality. From this perspective, the spiritual symbol of Laining will never be outdated, and it will have a great value of its existence and promotion at any time.
Now Reinin has been dead for 33 years, but he has removed it from textbooks and the corresponding photographs have been removed. Relevant scholars believe that Lai Ning's spirit is commendable, but with the progress of the times and the development of society, the environment in which we live has become more peaceful and stable, and when we encounter danger, we should tell our children that ensuring their own safety is the most important.
Under this premise, we call more professional people to rescue them, and they are more professional, more advanced equipment, and more efficient rescue. Children should call for help in time when they find a dangerous situation, rather than risking their lives and risking their lives to act as personal heroism. We should teach our children to solve problems in a more effective and safer way, which is not contradictory to protecting themselves, nor is it in conflict.
