Global sales of PC monitors have declined, and supply and demand will stabilize after 2022

According to the IDC report,

PC monitor shipments declined for the first time in five quarters since the pandemic. Global PC monitor shipments in the third quarter of 2021 decreased by 7.2% compared to the same period last year.

In comparison with the third quarter of 2021 versus the third quarter of 2020, Dell went on to be the world's largest display shipment company, up 20.6 percent to 7.6 million units and 22 percent of the market. Lenovo was runner-up with 4.2 million units and a 6.9% increase, while TPV fell to 3.9 million units, a 30.1% decline.

Based on this downward trend in data, IDC says the reasons can be boiled down to two. First, there has been a significant contraction in key markets in North America and Western Europe, mainly due to changes in local consumer demand. Second, while supply and logistics challenges persist compared to previous quarters, they continue to weigh on markets where prices have risen due to costs to some extent.

For the future development of the PC display market, IDC expects shipments in the fourth quarter of this year to continue to slow, and there will be a decline of about 2% in 2022 or compared to 2021, and gradually stabilize in the following years.

Compared with other computer hardware and computer peripherals, the update iteration speed of the display tends to be significantly slower. For mass DIY users, the factors that promote the replacement of monitors come more from games, but in 2021, due to "mining" and global lack of cores, the shortage of graphics cards at a high premium makes DIY players less interested in replacing computer configurations and peripherals, and perhaps after the release of new graphics cards in 2022, the above situation will be improved.
