#World History# P100, Bandung Conference

In 1955, Bandung, Indonesia, held the first Asian-African Conference. It was also the first meeting of the countries of the Third World, held without the interference of the Western powers, after which the Final Communiqué of the Asian-African Conference was adopted. Establish 10 principles of peaceful coexistence.

After World War II, national liberation movements in Asia and Africa flourished. Newly independent countries call for the development of multilateral relations. In 1955, the Conference of Asian Nations was held in New Delhi, which supported the "Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence" advocated by China and India. Western countries, on the other hand, have actively provoked the Asian-African Conference and created disturbances to interfere.

In April 1955, the Kashmir Princess, a leased Air India aircraft on loan, was destroyed by a bomb by agents and crashed into the sea while departing from Hong Kong for Indonesia. Zhou Enlai escaped a disaster by detouring through Burma. On 18 April, the Asian-African Conference broke through many obstacles and was held in Bandung. The main agenda of the conference was: economic, cultural, human rights and the right to self-determination, the question of the metropolis. However, there were also discordant voices at the meeting, and remarks that were unfriendly to socialism and China also appeared from time to time. In response, Premier Zhou Enlai decided to send the original speech to the delegations, and then draft a supplementary statement on an ad hoc basis. This is the famous "seeking common ground while reserving differences" speech, which has been universally appreciated and supported by all countries.

After the Congress, the delegates entered the special meeting and began the substantive stage. At this stage, political issues were hotly debated, and to that end, the Chinese delegation had made considerable efforts. Extensive and productive diplomatic activities were carried out. On the issue of dual nationality and Sino-US relations, the Chinese delegation held extensive consultations and peace shouts. On the basis of the 10 principles of peaceful coexistence, the Bandung Conference was successfully concluded. This meeting dealt a heavy blow to the old and new colonists. It laid the foundation for the rise of the Non-Aligned Movement in the 1960s.
