When "things of nature" merge with "female faces," the obsession hidden in Slava Fokk's memory becomes a belief.
Tulips
Black Swan
Born in 1976 in krasnodar, in southern Russia, Slava Fokk was surrounded by a strong and artistic atmosphere that prompted him to quickly grow into an excellent and individual oil painter.
In 1997, Fokker graduated with honors from the Krasnodar School of Art. After leaving school, he thought that there was some strange pressure in this incomparably familiar small city that was only for him personally, and this lingering disturbance continued to distract him and give him the mood to leave. Eventually, in order not to be disturbed by his artistic creations, he moved to Moscow.
Loving Tulips
Magnolia
In Moscow, Fokker touched on an old and living Russia, and thus combined classical painting with his own creative beliefs to form oil paintings with the advertising style of the old times. Combining moving female portraits with delicate flora and fauna, Falk's creative interests revolve around the works of the masters of the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The seemingly retro faces are given a new visual perception, which awakens people's yearning for classic decorative arts while also showing his understanding of neoclassical aesthetics.
Poppies
Magic Flower
Black Orchid
Lotus
Falk is adept at blending different objects and creating a kind of sensory enjoyment visually with the art masters of yesteryear in the form of decorative oil paintings. With his creative philosophy of "superimposing many kinds of beauty", in 2000 Fokker held his first solo exhibition in southern Russia, which was well received.
After the Rain
In a sense, it is difficult to distinguish who in Falk's work, the portraits of people and the animals and plants, is the subject he wants to portray. Falk uses almost the same intensity to depict every specific element that appears in the picture, as if a "staggered sense of order" is the first impression he tries to make. Therefore, it can be said that Falk's concern is how to catch the viewer's attention in the first place, and how to sort in this staggered order is not what he wants to impose on the viewer.
Flamingo
Purple Bird
Obscuring, attaching, connecting - Falk's works almost abandon the setting of close-up and long-range, in the flat vision without depth, the faces and hairstyles of the characters, the feathers and postures of animals, the branches and flowers of plants are all decorated and set off by each other, and they are harmoniously integrated into a whole under the high contrast of light and shade and tone, and the unique collage effect is not at all contradictory in the exquisite composition.
White Swan
Falk once said in an interview: "I will consciously reconcile the colors and layout in the painting, so that all the elements in the painting can be disassembled and combined at will." Plants and animals grow in the bodies of female characters, replacing parts of their faces, an interdependent illusion of life and a wild exploration. In the end, the self-consistency of portrait and object, color and layout makes the impossible possible. ”
Girl with Toucan
Toucan
Falk always believed that a perfect portrait begins with the setting of emotions, and only in this way can the inner world of the viewer be truly connected. After the mood setting is the layout planning of various elements in the picture, in terms of color processing, not only pay attention to the position of the light source, but also try to maintain the color balance. Finally, the choice of color saturation will also affect the visual effect of the work, and also determine whether the temperament of the work is more contemporary or more classical.
Aloe
BANANA
Red Bird
Rose of Mount
The beautiful and melancholy face exudes a mysterious and holy atmosphere, and the highly individualized shape crosses the shackles of the time and space dimension, and blooms with a unique and unified inner emotion in the simple background. Whether it is the delicate conception of a single work or the overall control of the series of works, Fokker's creation has formed a distinct personal characteristic, and can always use the language system he is familiar with and good at to firmly lock the viewer's line of sight, while fully satisfying the ornamentation, but also completely able to detach from the decorated subject and build his own aesthetic value.
Slava Fokk
The idea of the connection of all things composes a unique string of artistic notes in Fokker's mind, which chant the painter's understanding of life and nature, and the dark fragrance is full of romantic fragrance. This dreamlike painting, like a legend from ancient times to the present, depicts the state of mind of the painter and also decorates the colorful life.
