The cause of the incident began with a 3-minute "National Anthem Flash" short film.
In the short film, people of different skin colors, ages and identities meet at the Golden Bauhinia Square to watch the flag-raising ceremony. "Get up! People who don't want to be slaves??" In the video, when the prelude to the national anthem of the People's Republic of China is played, students in school uniforms, well-known figures in Hong Kong politics, entertainers, and even foreigners stand solemnly and salute the national flag.
Among them, an old woman in a wheelchair actually attracted the attention of Hong Kong opposition lawmakers Kwok Ka-chiu, Yin Zhaojian and Zhang Chaoxiong. They seem to feel that there are articles to be done, nonsense about "disabled people forced to stand", but also said that "forcing the elderly to get up and sing the national anthem" shows the "low-level fun" of patriotism, is "abuse of the elderly".
Such absurd remarks are self-defeating in the face of ironclad facts.

It turned out that the old woman's name was Luo Zhiping. She was a guerrilla veteran of the Gang 9 Independent Brigade of the Dongjiang Column. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Hong Kong fell, and this unit has always insisted on fighting behind enemy lines, which is awe-inspiring.
What is the East River Column? Laughing and drinking may wish to explain more here. The Dongjiang River is the name of a river in eastern Guangdong with a total length of 523 km. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Chinese Communist Party created guerrilla groups in the Dongjiang area. Under the leadership of Zeng Sheng, Lin Ping (Yin Linping), Wang Zuoyao, Yang Kanghua, and other principal leaders, this people's anti-Japanese armed force opened up the battlefield behind enemy lines in South China and gradually became the main force in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in South China.

According to incomplete statistics, the Dongjiang Column fought more than 1,400 battles against the Japanese and puppet armies, killed and wounded more than 6,000 Japanese puppet troops, captured about 3,500 prisoners (including surrenders), and captured more than 6,500 guns and 25 guns. More than 2,500 commanders and fighters of the Dongjiang Column bravely sacrificed their lives and made indelible contributions to the victory of the War of Resistance.

On December 8, 1941, the Japanese crossed the Shenzhen River and invaded Hong Kong. The next day, the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force sent a capable armed force into Hong Kong to resist the Japanese, and the members of the team went straight into the New Territories in three ways to fight secretly. This unit is the predecessor of the Gang Ninth Detachment of the Dongjiang Column.
On February 3, 1942, the Hong Kong-Kowloon Independent Brigade was established at the Church of HuangMaoying Village, JigongShan, Saigon, with subordinate subordinates including 6 squadrons of maritime armed forces, urban underground armed forces and intelligence systems, and subordinate to the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Group. The Hong Kong Ninth Brigade has more than 1,000 members, most of whom are former residents of the New Territories. On December 2, 1943, the Dongjiang Column of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force was officially established, and the Hong Kong-Kowloon Independent Brigade became the detachment of the Dongjiang Column.

Among them, after the fall of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Ninth Brigade carried out the work of rescuing British military personnel and international friends. From February to April 1942, he helped a group of British military and police officials and soldiers to flee Hong Kong and arrive at the Anti-Japanese Base Area in Dongjiang. In addition to the British and Indians, statistics show that the Dongjiang Column also rescued 8 Americans, 3 Danes, 2 Norwegians, 1 Soviet, and 1 Filipino during the War of Resistance. Among them, these 8 Americans were all American pilots who parachuted to the ground because the Japanese shot down the fighter.

In addition, the Hong Kong Ninth Brigade also assisted in the rescue of prisoners of war, including Lindsay Tasman Ride, a former professor of medicine at the University of Hong Kong, and John Douglas Clague of the Royal Artillery Corps.
Many cultural and patriotic democrats, under the cover of the guerrillas, disguised themselves, inserted themselves into the refugee line and successfully left Hong Kong through the sentry of the Japanese army. Among them, the more famous ones are Mao Dun and Ge Baoquan.

On the eve of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, from April to June 1945, when the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held in Yan'an, Commander-in-Chief Zhu De, in his military report "On the Battlefield of the Liberated Areas", referred to the Dongjiang Column, the Qiongya Column, the Eighth Route Army, and the New Fourth Army as "the mainstay of China's War of Resistance."

On Chung Yang Festival in 1998, the ceremony for the release of the roster of fallen soldiers of the Former East River Column's Hong Kong 9 Independence Brigade was held by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the General Assembly Hall of Hong Kong. The then Chief Executive, Tung Chee-hwa, personally placed here a roster of 115 martyrs who died in the Hong Kong Ninth Brigade. The heroic souls of warriors who have sacrificed their lives for the country will guard this bloody land for generations.
On the same day, the SAR Government officially announced that "the Hong Kong-Kowloon Independence Brigade of the Dongjiang Column was an official armed force during the fall of Hong Kong and made a major contribution to the battle to defend Hong Kong." This marks that the SAR Government has legislated to confirm the historical status of the Hong Kong-Kowloon Independence Brigade, and in accordance with the Pacific War Pension Regulations, pensions have been given to the families of martyrs, members of the team who have been wounded and captured and abused, and members and their families who have the right of permanent residence in Hong Kong enjoy medical treatment for civil servants.
