Porcelain Capital Information Harbor News (reporter Zhang Min) My name is He Shanying. Born in Hong Kong, I moved to Canada, currently reside in New York City, and am currently an Associate Professor of Ceramic Arts at Queens College, City University of New York, USA. At the earliest, when I was in Hong Kong, the bowl used for eating at home was Jingdezhen ceramics, and later when I studied ceramics in Canada, I always felt that I did not understand my roots, and Chinese roots, I felt that it was a pity. During my studies in pottery, my teacher once asked me: What does Chinese ceramics represent? Where did the shape and history of ceramics come from? I don't understand. In 1996, I came to Jingdezhen with my teacher, and at that time there was no such thing as Jingdui, and I was the first student to study pottery in Canada to jingdezhen. I wanted to learn everything, and I was particularly curious about Jingdezhen's ceramics and marveled at Jingdezhen's porcelain-making skills. It was also at that time that I met my current husband, gained knowledge of pottery, and gained my love.

Coming to Jingdezhen, for me, means "looking for roots". When I came to Jingdezhen in 1996, I went out once a day, and when I came back, there would be a layer of black ash on my nose, when most of the people made porcelain and burned coal, the people's life was relatively simple, there were no cars, only tricycles, and people ate a breakfast for only fifty cents. It was winter, the windows were open, it was particularly cold, and I had to wear thick clothes and gloves when I was in a pottery class in Jingdezhen, because it was the first time, so the feeling at that time became the most impressive one in my memory. More than 20 years have passed, and now Jingdezhen has undergone earth-shaking changes, the city is becoming more and more beautiful, the traffic is also very convenient, more and more foreign artists come to Jingdezhen, urban planning and development, but also give us these foreign landscape drift artists a lot of room for development, Jingdezhen is getting better and better.

The blue and white flowers in Jingdezhen fascinated me, and I greatly admired the glorious history of Chinese blue and white porcelain. Often by deconstructing and reconstructing these forms, transforming familiar forms into unfamiliar and unidentified sculptures to achieve their own creative intentions, and using multiple images, icons, symbols and symbols as a surface narrative, my works are full of humanistic atmosphere, with stories and emotions in them. I often use the technique of patchwork, putting my feelings of living in different countries, as well as elements such as the Jingdezhen Ceramics Belt and Road Initiative and the Silk Road, in ceramic creation, further emphasizing the difference in time, combining traditional hand-drawn images with new technologies to produce different artistic effects. I am tireless, has been on the road to learn, Jingdezhen still has a lot of pottery, the skills of the old craftsmen to learn to excavate, Jingdezhen's strong ceramic atmosphere, thousands of years of porcelain making technology and the local strong humanistic atmosphere is closely related to my creation, to my ceramic creation has a profound impact.

Every year during the summer and winter breaks, I choose to create ceramics in Jingdezhen, and the rest of the time I prepare solo exhibitions and give lessons to my students in New York. I often tell them the story of my life in Jingdezhen, and whenever I talk about Jingdezhen, my students quiet down and listen to my story in Jingdezhen, and most of them are eager to come to Jingdezhen, to see where I once lived and created, and to experience the ceramics for myself. From time to time, I will also recommend some of my potter friends to jingdezhen as resident artists, and I will occasionally bring my students to Jingdezhen as trainees, learn the pottery of Jingdezhen, understand the thousand-year-old ceramic history here, and enrich the students' experience and knowledge of ceramics.

This year, Jingdezhen winter rain is particularly heavy, moisture is a little heavy, I still love the city, it is ceramics that attracted me to Jingdezhen, how many times have I dreamed of ceramics, in the dark it is calling me, Jingdezhen is now a part of my life. The people of Jingdezhen are very warm, lovely and friendly. The pottery works during the creation period in Jingdezhen are often exhibited in Romania, Canada, the United States and other different countries, and I will hold five or six solo exhibitions a year, and my works are also collected by individuals or museums in Canada, the United States, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan. Recently, I am preparing for a solo exhibition in the United States, and all the works I have created this year will become the main exhibits of my solo exhibition, and each work will take time to settle. Next, my creative point will focus more on women, hoping to show a kind of admiration for women through different ceramic works. In Jingdezhen I drifted for 25 years, I am still continuing to study, in Jingdezhen, live to learn from old age, with more and better ceramic art works to pay tribute to Chinese Jingdezhen porcelain.
