On May 13, 2000, high school student Alex and his classmates prepared to take a flight to Paris, France, for an off-campus trip. But before the plane could take off, Alex suddenly foresaw that the plane would explode shortly after takeoff, so he asked to get off the plane, and everyone thought he was being unreasonable, and at his insistence, his good friend, a teacher, and several classmates accompanied him off the plane.
Shortly after they got off the plane, the plane exploded in the air, shocking everyone. Several of the survivors were surprised and glad that they had disembarked from the plane, but Death had no intention of letting them go.
In the 39 days after the disaster, Alex and other survivors went to the school to attend the memorial ceremony, and on the same night, Alex's good friend Todd, who got off the plane with Alex, encountered a series of "chain reactions" in his bathroom and was strangled in the bathtub by the steel wire in the bathroom.
The next day, Terry, another survivor of the crash, was about to cross the street when she was killed by a bus. The deaths of Todd and Terri leave the remaining survivors feeling panicked and uneasy, and Alex's teacher prepared to pack her bags and move out of the city that made her sad and frightened.
The night before her teacher, Luton, was preparing to move, the vodka that had leaked out of her cup as her cup swelled and contracted, exploded, and a piece of computer fragment was inserted into her throat causing her to bleed and fall to the ground unable to get up because of the kitchen fire, and then was stabbed in the chest by a kitchen knife that fell from the kitchen table.
A series of bizarre deaths make the poor children realize that death has not spared them, so they take Alex back and begin to discuss how to escape death. While driving, his classmate Carter learns that he is the next, and because of his despair, he parks his car on the train intersection and tries to commit suicide, and proves that he is the one who controls his life. Later, when Carter repents and finds himself trapped, Alex rushes to rescue him from the car at the last minute.
After Carter's car was destroyed by a train, one of the car fragments was bounced out by the train, just cutting off the head of another boy who was standing in front of everyone complaining...
Six months later, classmate Carter and another surviving girl flew to Paris with Alex to celebrate their successful survival. But when they gathered in a French restaurant to talk, Alex realized that Death hadn't actually skipped him at all, and when he saw the omen again, he left the table, only to be nearly hit by a bus. The crash of the bus caused one of the restaurant's large neon signs to fall, and Alex, after being rescued by Carter, claimed that Death had not jumped over him. When Carter asks who is next, the neon sign comes back and smashes Carter to death on the spot.
