Water conservancy is an infrastructure and basic industry for the development of national economic and social undertakings, and plays an important role in supporting and guaranteeing sustainable economic and social development. Gansu is located at the confluence of qinghai-Tibet, Mengxin and Loess Plateau, which belongs to the three major river basins of the Yellow River, the Yangtze River and the Inland River, with a special geographical location, complex topography, dry climate, sparse rainfall, poor and uneven distribution of water resources, and prominent contradictions between supply and demand. Since the founding of New China, especially after the reform and opening up, Gansu's water conservancy and hydropower undertakings have made tremendous achievements, successively completing the district (flow) area planning of dozens of rivers such as the Shule River and the Tao River, and comprehensive planning and special planning for water resources, flood prevention in important cities, and water-saving irrigation in the province, building a large number of water conservancy irrigation (hydropower generation) projects, and forming a water conservancy engineering system with water supply, irrigation, flood control and power generation, and soil and water conservation as the mainstays. These projects play an important role in changing production and living conditions and improving the ecological environment, with significant economic, social and ecological benefits.

Introduction of the Great Into Qin Project

The Introduction into Qin water conservancy project is a large-scale water conservancy backbone project that diverts the Datong River water originating from the Muli Mountains in Qinghai to the east across the basin and into the arid and water-scarce Qinwangchuan area 60 kilometers north of Lanzhou City in Gansu Province, and is also the largest cross-basin artesian irrigation project in China in the 1990s, known as the "Northwest Dujiangyan" and "Artificial Underground River". The water conservancy project that introduced The great qin water conservancy project spans six counties (districts) in four provinces (cities) in Gansu and Qingdao, crosses lofty mountains and mountains, and the project is arduous, creating many miracles in the history of water conservancy construction in Gansu. The completion of this project has fundamentally improved the basic conditions for agricultural production in the irrigation area, not only steadily solved the problem of poverty alleviation and prosperity of nearly 400,000 people in the Qinwangchuan area, but also fundamentally changed the production and living conditions and ecological environment of the water supply area, and gradually improved the living standards of the masses, creating good basic conditions for economic and social development.

Jingdian Engineering

Jingdian Project is the first high-lift, high-flow, multi-cascade power water-lifting irrigation project in Gansu since the founding of New China. The project area spans the Yellow River and Shiyang River valleys, including the four counties (banners) of Jingtai, Gulang, Minqin and Alxa Zuoqi in the two provinces and regions of Ganmeng. The Jingdian Project is composed of three parts: the Jingdian Phase I Project, the Jingdian Phase II Project, and the Jingdian Phase II Extension to the Minqin Water Transfer Project (hereinafter referred to as the PollIng Project). The Jingdian Project has completely changed the basic conditions of local agricultural production and achieved significant economic, social and ecological benefits, and the Jingdian Irrigation District has now become a green barrier on the southern edge of the Tengger Desert.

In August 2009, the first phase of jiuquan 10 million kilowatt wind power base was officially started in Yumen Changma Wind Farm, marking the full start of the largest wind power project planned and constructed in China.

Diversion project

After repeated surveys and scientific demonstrations, the construction of the project began again in August 2006. On November 22, the people of Gansu looked forward to the half-century-long dream project of "clearing the flow of the Tao River and quenching the thirst in Longzhong" was officially launched. On December 28, 2014, after eight years of arduous construction, the first phase of the largest cross-basin water transfer project in Gansu's history, the Diversion Water Supply Project, was completed and the whole line was put into trial operation. On August 6, 2015, the first phase of the project was officially put into operation, with a total area of 19,700 square kilometers, involving 11 national poverty alleviation key counties and 155 townships under the jurisdiction of five cities in Gansu Province, including Lanzhou, Dingxi, Baiyin, Pingliang and Tianshui, with a total population of about 3 million people.

Wind power generation

Jiuquan 10 million kilowatt-class wind power base is another landmark project for the large-scale development of the western region in China after the west-to-east gas transmission, the west-to-east oil transmission, the west-to-east power transmission and the Qinghai-Tibet Railway. In 2006, Gansu proposed to "build the Hexi Wind Power Corridor and build the Three Gorges onshore in the west". In April 2008, the National Development and Reform Commission reviewed and approved the "Jiuquan 10 Million Kilowatt Wind Power Base Planning Report". On August 8, 2009, the National Energy Administration and the Gansu Provincial Government held a grand groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of the Jiuquan Wind Power Base in Jiuquan, marking the full start of the construction of the Jiuquan 10 million kilowatt wind power base. During the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, Jiuquan 10 million kilowatts of wind power base was built, and the installed capacity of wind and photovoltaics in the province reached 12.52 million kilowatts and 6.1 million kilowatts respectively, ranking second and first in the country。
