In the fifth year of the Ming Dynasty (1625), Chen Niangu was born in huguang junzhou city, which is now the area of Junxian County, Hubei. Like many children in ancient times, he aspired to learn and study diligently from an early age.
In the eighth year of Qing Shunzhi (1651), Chen Niangu was raised to the examination, and four years later, he was admitted to the Jinshi Examination, after which he was given the title of Zhi County directly under Raoyang County. In the three years at the local level, Chen Niangu punished evil and adulterers, worked diligently and loved the people, was just and honest, and won the love of the people, and his political achievements were also very outstanding.
After the expiration of his term of office, Chen Niangu was promoted to the position of chief of the bureaucracy and Langzhong, which was highly used by the Shunzhi Emperor, and in the seventeenth year of Shunzhi (1660), he was personally appointed by the emperor as the chief examiner of the Shaanxi Township Examination, and many talents were selected.
The following year, Chen Niangu was sent by the emperor to SirenDao, Guizhou Province, in the southwest, to serve as a deputy envoy of the Department of Political Affairs and the Deputy Envoy of the Division. In Guizhou, where ethnic relations are complicated, Chen Niangu personally went to Miaozhai to inspect and soothe and maintain stability in the border areas.
After this, Chen Niangu also returned to Beijing and was responsible for managing the salt administration in the Hubu Department, and in the tenth year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1671), he was promoted to Hubu Langzhong and Shilang, and he was an official for half his life, he always worked diligently, and he was really a good official. In the twenty-third year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1684), Chen Niangu resigned and returned to his hometown at the age of huajia, and died peacefully a few years later. So, why does such a good official become a negative person in the drama? This matter has to start from the fifteenth year of Shunzhi (1658).
This year, Chen Niangu's two former classmates, Hu Mengdi and Qiu Menglin, entered Beijing to find him, and wanted Chen Niangu, who was working in the bureaucracy, to help him arrange an official and a half-job.
In ancient times, if you could not pass the normal examination process to obtain an official, you could also rely on ""quan selection"" to obtain alternate qualifications. However, at that time, to be able to get the qualification for quan selection also required donation of money and the status of a person, chen Niangu's two fellow windows were idle, and now they are just talents, and there is no way to be selected.
As a result, the principled Chen Niangu could not meet their demands, so he had to give some silver to send them away.
However, Hu Mengdi and Qiu Menglin did not appreciate it and were very dissatisfied with Chen Niangu. When they were passing back to Nanyang, Hu and Qiu saw that there was a drama team singing "Pipa Ji", which said that soon after the scholar Cai Boxue and his wife Zhao Wuniang were newly married, they were forced by their father to enter Beijing to take the exam, and as a result, they were forced to enter Beijing to take the exam.
After this, a drought occurred in Cai Bozhe's hometown, his parents died one after another, and the letter he sent home was deceived, resulting in the severance of contact.

Later, this drama team took this adapted "Pipa Book" to perform everywhere, spreading Chen Shimei's notoriety everywhere.

In fact, the earliest appearance of chen shimei's image is in the chapter "'Qin's soul is still matched with Shimei' in the Ming Dynasty's Wanli Novel "Zengxiang Bao Longtu Sentences Hundred Public Cases", which means that as early as the Ming Dynasty, there was a plot of Chen Shimei abandoning his wife and son.
Therefore, the statement that Chen Shimei is based on Qing Dynasty officials is obviously incorrect, and it can be said that Chen Shimei should be a pure fictional character, without a historical archetype.
