Scotland's 18-year-old defence star may land in the Premier League, with Manchester United already sending scouts or competing with the Reds

Scottish football may not have the best reputation in European football as a whole, but few fans can deny that the small country continues to produce good young players. Whether it's Gilmore, McGinn or Robertson, the Scottish League has proven to be a hotbed of excellence, allowing well-rounded and talented individuals to hone their abilities before moving them to higher leagues. In that light alone, Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsey looks set to be the next young star to shine in the Scottish league. Whether playing for Scotland's national youth team or his home club, Ramsey has always been a right-back, but he can also act as a wing-back if needed.

Aberdeen named Ramsey a young player at the "elite" level. Chairman Dave Cormack said: "There are not many people his age who do what he should do. Looking at the data, all the clubs are looking at the same scouting system. He is the elite of Europe's young right-backs, right here. People see that, which is why we believe there will be a lot of people interested in it. Ramsey made his mark in Scottish football at the end of the 2020-21 season, when the defender had several starters in the Scottish League and Aberdeen's Scottish Cup. That seemed like enough for new coach Stephen Glass to put Ramsey in his squad as a starter, and as a result, the young Scotsman has been the team's starting member in the European play-offs and the Premier League. The young full-back has plenty of room to run with and without the ball, which goes straight to his excellent assist stats. Whether as a full-back or a more advanced wing-back, Ramsey is enough to keep most teams in trouble.

While young talented players in Scottish games are often poached by Celtic or Rangers, there is a good chance the defender will make it straight into English football if recent reports are to be trusted. According to British media reports, United have been keeping a close eye on the 18-year-old since Ramsey broke into the first team and have already had scouts observe him on many occasions. Whether the Premier League giants will actually sign the young genius remains to be seen, but this interest has at least shown that Ramsey's current ability and potential deserves to be taken seriously. Of course, the Red Devils also face competition, with Liverpool, Everton and Leicester now keeping an eye on the teenager.
