For a scholar like me, who is not very good at communication and lacks acting talent, such an intensive appearance in Shenzhen is quite exceptional— even I am surprised.
Probably to take care of my first appearance, or to get the advice of the Reading Month Organizing Committee, anyway, the lecture on "How to "Educate" in Literature", the Shenzhen media responded very warmly, and the relevant reports were: "Chen Pingyuan, director of the Department of Chinese of Peking University and a famous scholar, yesterday appeared at the Shenzhen Reading Forum, discussing why the University Chinese Department does not cultivate writers" (Shenzhen Special Economic Zone News on November 16, 2009); "More Academic, More Professional" (Shenzhen Business Daily, November 16, 2009);" Only when you have a poetic heart can you make college questions" (Jing Bao, November 16, 2009); "Chen Pingyuan: Recalling Those Vanished "Literature Classrooms" (Shenzhen News Network, November 17, 2009); "Interest is the First, Professional Ranking Second- Chen Pingyuan Talks about "Literature" How to "Educate" (Shenzhen Evening News, November 18, 2009). Of course, this is also related to the media ecology of ten years ago. Today, no matter how hard I try, it will be difficult to occupy so many pages anymore.
What I miss most is the academic dialogue with Mr. Liu Daoyu and Zhu Qingshi on "National Education and University Reform" held at the "Famous Artists Forum" held by Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Daily to commemorate the 30th anniversary of its founding on May 27, 2012. That dialogue, the media did a lot of rendering in advance, very exciting. The atmosphere on the day was warm, the three of us played well, but the final report was very small, only on May 28, 2012 in the "Jing Bao" "University "sick", rooted in the society - Liu Daoyu, Zhu Qingshi, Chen Pingyuan analyzed "national education and college reform", for the university reform "consultation", and on May 28, 2012 "Southern Metropolis Daily" "Liu Daoyu and other experts on university reform said to learn the real talent to go abroad". A little bit of flipping through the first report makes it easy to see why the publicity of this event is so overwhelming.
In 2013, I talked about "Us in the 1980s" at the "Shenzhen Reading Forum", and the lecture was also very effective, and the reports I saw included "Chen Pingyuan's Guest Reading Forum Looking Back at the 1980s and Academic Life" (Shenzhen Sartor News, November 17, 2013); "I am the beneficiary of the 1980s" (Shenzhen Business Daily, November 18, 2013); "Chen Pingyuan: Now everyone who talks about the "1980s" is a profiteer" (Jingbao, November 17, 2013). I have talked about this topic in several places in the future, and after further improvement, it was written as "Looking at the Eighties from Afar", the first issue of "Literary and Art Controversy" No. 12, 2018, and the reproduction material of the People's Congress Newspaper "Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature Research" No. 3, 2019.

In the past three or four years, due to the appointment of Nanshan District Cultural Consultant and Nanshan District Library Director, my activities in Shenzhen have increased significantly, and some of them are simply "strokes of God". For example, in November 2018, he lectured on "Image Narrative and Low-key Enlightenment - Thirty Years of Late Qing Pictorial" in Nanshan, and the next month, the book won a series of book awards such as the "Top Ten Good Books of 2018" in the index Shenzhen Reading Month, and became an academic bestseller. In November 2019, the New Year's Eve dialogue "Humanities and Sciences", I myself felt very wonderful, and the introduction was compiled into "Humanities and Science and Technology: The Necessity and Possibility of Dialogue", which was published in the "China Reading News" on December 4, 2019, and later included in the "How literature is educated - literary education in the humanistic perspective" published by oriental publishing house this year. In November last year, I gave a special lecture entitled "The Transformation and Rebirth of Lingnan Culture" for cadres in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, and this lecture was at the bottom, and this year's sixth issue of "People's Pictorial" and the English edition of "China Pictorial" launched a special number for the Greater Bay Area, and I dared to agree to write an introduction to "The New Changes of Lingnan Culture and the Future of the Greater Bay Area". As for the official operation of the "Nanshan Study Room Pingyuan Xuan" on February 1 this year, it is very popular with readers and sought after by the media, which makes me deeply pleased.

Interesting is yet to come. One day last month, following an urgent notice, I was hired as one of the first experts of the Shenzhen Publishing and Reading for All Professional Committee, and I was obliged to immediately make a video to congratulate the 22nd Shenzhen Reading Month. Time was tight, the technology was rusty, and that night was really hard for us. Fortunately, my wife was extremely smart, and I was blessed with my soul, and I actually succeeded in shooting without any guidance. Now that I have copied the original impromptu performance, it is still quite decent: "I am Chen Pingyuan, who has participated in the activities of Shenzhen Reading Month many times, including speeches, dialogues, awards, meetings and so on. Today is the launching ceremony of the 22nd Shenzhen Reading Month. Today in China, Shenzhen Reading Month has become a festival for all readers. Not only Shenzhen, not only Guangdong, in a sense, readers all over China will pay attention to this reading month. Because, here, there used to be so many talents of thought and enthusiasm for reading. In a sense, Shenzhen's reading month has become a sign of China's current reading enthusiasm. Through these 22 years of efforts, this has become the most important cultural business card in Shenzhen. Shenzhen people read here, read Chinese, read foreign, read ancient, and also read today's China. What I hope is that we will pay more and more attention to the world's ideas and scholarship, and at the same time, more and more attention to the land under our feet. Today is not only the reading month, but also the development of universities in Shenzhen, and the publishing industry in Shenzhen is also rising. I hope that in another year, two years, three years and four years, many of the works that everyone will read in this reading month will be written by scholars in Shenzhen and published by shenzhen publishing houses. From December 8th to 22nd, Shenzhen Qianjian Bookstore held the "Novel History and Literary Education - Exhibition of Professor Chen Pingyuan's Writings".
And the front edge of the bookstore to continue the frontier, the production of "Novel History and Literary Education - Professor Chen Pingyuan's Writings Style Exhibition", originally thought it was very simple, is not the new book promotion, I do it every year. After reading the production plan of the bookstore, I found that this time it was very different, it was simply an academic career retrospective. Although it has been repeatedly adjusted and refraining from overly eager expectations, the final presentation is still amazing. Seeing that the exhibition period is approaching, the other party is still striving for excellence, I am a little too careless to go, and timidly said: This can be directly printed into a commemorative book. The host Wang Fang replied with a stunned look: Ben had this idea; moreover, after the bookstore was exhibited, he still wanted to transfer to the "Nanshan Study Room • Pingyuan Xuan" for long-term exhibition.
Now I took it. So, I was ordered to write an introduction to my cultural relationship with Shenzhen.
