
According to ESPN, in response to the growing COVID-19 epidemic, a number of clubs are pushing for a temporary suspension of the Premier League.
With the Omiljung variant virus causing a growing number of cases, some senior Premier League executives have been offered to suspend the match until 8-9 next January, when the third round of the FA Cup will be played.
That means the Premier League will postpone four rounds of the league, starting with this weekend's tournament and the suspension lasting until 1-2 next January. According to the proposal, the Premier League will restart on January 15.

Watford's away match against Burnley was cancelled just hours before kick-off, with some clubs fearing that fans travelling long distances could be forced to return if the decision on whether the game was played too late.
Ahead of Chelsea's game against Everton, the Blues had 3 positive cases in addition to Kovac, who was infected last week, who was self-isolating. However, the match, which starts at Stamford Bridge, is expected to take place as scheduled.
Previously, Brentford boss Thomas Frank had called for a suspension of this weekend's Premier League games, and his side had recently seen some covid-19-positive cases.
