Zhang Juhan gradually became a follower of a very popular eunuch around the eunuch, who trained Zhang Juhan as his successor, taught him a lot of things, and made Zhang Juhan's palace life more and more smooth.
During the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, Zhang Juhan was deeply trusted and loved by the emperor, and was later promoted to judge of the Rongnan Protectorate.
He even served as the overseer of Fan Yang's army, and had a good relationship with Liu Rengong, who could be called a eunuch with a relatively high status in the palace.
Generally speaking, the eunuchs who have reached this position will have a little selfishness, and they will use the power in their hands to seek benefits for themselves, but Zhang Juhan is not such a person, he is very kind. In Zhang Juhan's life, the most classic place is that he once assisted two princes to ascend the throne, one was the King of Jin, and the other was the son of the King of Jin.

By chance, Zhang Juhan used humorous language to depict the concubines around the emperor and was known to the emperor. When the State of Shu was attacked by Emperor Mingzong of Tang, Li Siyuan, the king of the State of Shu, Wang Yan, chose to surrender, but Emperor Mingzong of Tang did not believe him, so he planned to directly kill Wang Yan and his entourage, and sent Zhang Juhan to issue the Holy Will. However, when Zhang Juhan read out the Holy Will, he had his own ideas, and he felt that this line of people was innocent and should not be killed because of Wang Yan's problem alone. Therefore, Zhang Juhan privately changed a word and changed the sentence "execute Wang Yan and his party" to "execute Wang Yan's family", thus saving the lives of thousands of people.
The gap of one word quietly saved thousands of people, and if he wanted to say that he dared to change the emperor's words, it was found that three words lost his head, and the majesty of the emperor could not be offended, but he did do so, which showed his kindness. However, he was also afraid, so after reading the holy will, he confessed to Li Cunmao. I don't know why, he did not pursue Zhang Juhan's guilt, but instead allowed him to return to his hometown.
Let him have a relatively good old age. Later, Zhang Juhan returned to Chang'an, and Li Siyuan used his adopted son Zhang Yangui as a minister in Xijing in order to support Zhang Juhan. In April of the third year of Tiancheng (928), Zhang Juhan died of illness in Chang'an.
He died at the age of 71 and was buried in Longmen Township, Chang'an County.
