In May 1943, Hitler summoned Minister of Armaments Albert Speer and Amanlos to discuss the use of chemical weapons. Many Nazi officers had been asking Hitler to use Tabun against the Soviets, but they were all rejected, in part because of speculation that he feared that the Allies would use similar weapons.
At the time, Hitler wasn't worried about the Allies' ability to produce mustard gas, what really worried him was whether Britain and the United States would be able to develop a deadly neurological agent like Tabun. At this time, the scientist Amanlos said, "I have reason to believe that the existence of Tabun is already known abroad." As far as I know, Tabun had been made public as early as 1902 (in fact, it only appeared in 1936), and that sarin had applied for a patent, and both substances had appeared in patents. ”
It was also at this time that Hitler realized that the Allies might retaliate by using Tabun or similar chemicals. The scientist Amanlos deliberately exaggerated the Allied ability to use chemical weapons of his own development to return fire, prompting Hitler to reconsider his battle plan. In the ensuing engagements, Hitler did not use Tabun.
However, why did Amanlos mislead Hitler? Amaros knows a lot about chemistry. If he confuses the years of 1936 and 1902, it is clearly unconvincing to all, and it is clear that the probability of intentional action is extremely high. His words eventually left Hitler in a state of apprehension and eventually abandoned the use of tabun against the Allies. Regrettably, Amaros was tried in Nuremberg in 1947 for crimes against humanity.
