Hualong Network - New Chongqing Client December 14, 14:34 (Guo Xiaotong) "I am now mainly engaged in the teaching and scientific research of pharmacology, with antitumor drug pharmacology / pharmacology of antimetabolic diseases as the main research direction. "Zhou Weiying, a third-level professor, doctoral supervisor, is currently the deputy director of the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Drug Metabolism Research of Chongqing Medical University.
Zhou Weiying, who has been working in the field of life sciences for many years, has gradually taken the research and development of safe, effective and economical drugs as the way forward.
Deep ploughing pharmacology Has been running on the runway of chasing dreams
When I first met Zhou Weiying, she wore a white coat, long black hair, and small glasses, gentle and delicate, and under her thin figure, she was a heart for the persistent pursuit of scientific research.
"Pharmacology is a bridge discipline that connects basic medicine and clinical medicine, as well as basic medicine and pharmacy." In the study of the pharmacology of anti-tumor drugs, Zhou Weiying started from basic research, focused on breast and prostate cancer, explored the mechanism of tumor occurrence and development, and found that it can be used as a target for drug design, designed prevention and control strategies, and studied drugs to curb the invasion and metastasis of tumors; in the study of pharmacology of antimetabolic diseases, it is also from basic research to carry out drug research related to the treatment of diabetes and its complications.
Asked why she chose to study breast cancer? "It is a malignant tumor with the highest incidence in women, and it is very harmful to the health of our women, and I think it is worth studying." When it comes to his research direction, Zhou Weiying gushes endlessly.
Her team set their sights on the mechanism of breast cancer invasion and metastasis and antagonistic strategies, one of which revealed a new mechanism for breast cancer cells to domesticate normal cells by secreting exosomes and promote their own invasion and metastasis (Cancer Cell, 2014), and the article was named one of The Coaster Cell's most talked about of the year, Nat Rev Cancer and Nat Rev Genet, which were positively reviewed by Nature, Science, Cell, PNAS and other authoritative publications cite, as of August 2021, he has cited 972 times.
From 2011 to 2014, Shear was a visiting scholar at the Beckman Institute at City of Hope National Medical Center, a nonprofit research and treatment center focused on cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
The 3 years of studying abroad have made Zhou Weiying more determined to continue to run on the road of researching anti-tumor drugs. "As a woman and as a pharmacology researcher, I hope to make some contributions to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer and work on the unsolved problems of medicine." Zhou Weiying said.
For Zhou Weiying, the runway of chasing dreams has been running, and in the starry sky that pursues and looks up, what remains unchanged is the fiery original heart.
In recent years, Zhou Weiying has presided over 1 major scientific and technological project of the national "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", 4 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and 10 other provincial and ministerial projects; published 42 papers; applied for 5 national invention patents, obtained 2 approvals; and participated in the compilation of 2 monographs.
Intentions to convey the "shining point" of knowledge and ideas, she interprets the role of the teacher
"I like the profession of a teacher, when I was a child, I often pretended to be a teacher when I was playing games, and the most important reason for choosing a doctorate was to become a college teacher."
The dream of the teacher is to make the dream of all students come true, and now, the heavy medicine has fulfilled Zhou Weiying's dream as a teacher.
"Teacher Zhou, I especially like your class, and I hope to engage in pharmaceutical research in the future and develop in this area." When Zhou Weiying, who was a teacher at the beginning, received such a message from the students, he was touched and proud at the same time.
"It's a great place to be able to have a positive impact on students in the course of my teaching, to spark their interest in drug development, and to make him determined to solve problems that we don't have solved right now." Zhou Weiying said.
All along, she has taken "learning to be a teacher and acting as a model for the world" as her teaching philosophy.
"If you want to teach a student a bowl of water, you have to have a bucket of water." Zhou Weiying said, "The knowledge in the field of natural sciences is updated quickly and the amount of information is large, and if you want to teach students well, you must continuously enrich yourself and live to learn from the old." ”
Zhou Weiying has formed the habit of insisting on learning, always needing to update professional knowledge and pay attention to new developments in the field of research, "If I don't read literature or books for a few days, I feel very empty and lost." ”
During the hard-won vacation, Zhou Weiying also set herself a small reading goal - to complete the reading of two monographs on medicinal chemistry and pharmacy.
Zhou Weiying attaches great importance to the ideological and political education of students. "Boring preaching has little effect, so in the process of teaching, I introduce historical stories or traditional culture in a timely manner, and combine knowledge points to teach."
When she taught penicillin, she mentioned that penicillin is the earliest antibiotic discovered by humans, and more than 1,000 years ago, the working people of our country used moldy paste to apply pus or inflamed wounds. In 1944, several scientists such as Tang Feifan and Fan Qingsheng in China went through countless hardships to give birth to China's first batch of antibiotics and unveiled the history of China's production of antibiotics...
Students find this method of teaching, which cites scriptures, more interesting than simple preaching, and at the same time inspires a love of traditional culture in our country.
"Teacher, so preach and teach karma to solve puzzles also." Therefore, it is not enough for us to only impart knowledge to students, but we must subtly influence them through words and deeds, help them establish a correct world outlook, outlook on life and values, and teach them the way to deal with the world and establish a career. ”
Growing up with heavy doctors, she, a new Chongqing person, has a "heart belonging"
In 1997, the year of direct administration, Zhou Weiying came to the mountain city of Chongqing from the coast of the northern country, and what she did not expect was that her whole life was closely connected with the city.
"At that time, Chongqing, just under the direct administration, it is not too much to call it a third-tier city, for more than 20 years, I have witnessed the rapid development of Chongqing, which can be said to be changing with each passing day and turning the world upside down."
When she first arrived in Chongqing, Zhou Weiying was unaccompanied, and now she has her teachers, classmates, colleagues, friends, as well as her students and favorite scientific research and teaching work.
"With the development of Chongqing for more than 20 years, I have also completed my undergraduate, master's and doctoral studies, and gained the growth from lecturer to professor... Chongqing and I accompanied each other and grew up together, especially after the intensive medical treatment, so that we had a new platform. ”
In 2017, Zhou Weiying became acquainted with heavy medical doctors, and what touched her was that whether it was the school and the hospital leaders, colleagues and students, they made her grateful and let her rush forward without hesitation.
In the study of breast cancer, the latest results reveal the mechanism of down-regulating AR transcription to treat triple-negative breast cancer (npj Breast cancer 2021) targeting the endoplasmic reticulum stress pathway, and screened out candidate drugs with potential development value for triple-negative breast cancer; in the development of diabetes drugs, the latest results reveal the new mechanism and new target of Celastrol's hypoglycemic effect. The project was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2021, and the paper is expected to be published in an authoritative journal in the field.
She has also won many awards in her teaching work, such as the special prize of the 3rd National Pharmacology Young Teachers' Teaching Basic Skills Competition; in 2018, Zhou Weiying was selected as the academic and technical leader of Chongqing, and in 2019, she was selected as the Chongqing Talents and Innovation Leading Talents and the Chongqing Bayu Scholars Distinguished Professor.
"I would like to grow up with heavy doctors and meet a better version of myself in the dream running." Zhou Weiying said loudly.
