On December 14, the official WeChat public account of black toothpaste released a message saying that DARLIE will use the company's founding Chinese name "Hollywood" instead of the "black" name. The updated "DARLIE Hollywood" brand full line of oral care products will be launched around March 2022.

According to Red Star News, Black Toothpaste is a well-known brand born in China, which was first founded in Shanghai in 1933 by Ningbo businessmen Yan Bolin and Yan Zhongzhong brothers. The Yan brothers founded Hollywood Medicine, the predecessor of the existing Hollywood Chemical, during the Shanghai Public Concession.
In 1985, because Colgate could not compete in the Southeast Asian market for black toothpaste, it took the initiative to acquire 50% of the shares of Hollyoak Chemical for $50 million, and black toothpaste also became Colgate's oral care brand.
Although half-owned, black toothpaste is still run by Hollywood Chemical itself. On June 18, 2020, according to Reuters, Colgate is re-evaluating and reviewing its Chinese toothpaste brand "Black Toothpaste", which has become the latest brand-affected incident under the "Black Lives Matter" protest in the United States, including the brand name. Colgate changed the original English name of black toothpaste to Darkie (black) to a letter and changed it to Darlie (Dalí). The brand's English name was originally called "Negro" and later renamed "Dalí", but the Chinese name has always been "Negro Toothpaste" and has been used since 1933.
