In the 1970s, China carried out the first large-scale comprehensive scientific expedition to the Tibetan Plateau, and completed a comprehensive expedition of 2.6 million square kilometers. After more than 40 years, the second Qinghai-Tibet scientific expedition began. In September 2020, the geological paleontological research team of Nanjing University and the Institute of Southern Paleontology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences crossed the uninhabited area of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to conduct a 36-day large-scale stratigraphic paleontological scientific expedition. The content of the scientific expedition is to further explore the paleobial diversity and paleontological geographical attributes of different blocks of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, geological events such as the Permian mass extinction, and collect and bring back a large number of fossils such as brachiopods, plants, and foraminifera of about 3 tons. The reporting team launched a total of 12 live broadcasts and released 123 videos; Weibo topics #Walk 200 million years# and #Qinghai-Tibet Scientific Expedition Stratigraphic Paleontology Project # read a total of 30.945 million.
