Cambodia, 9 Dec (Xinhua) -- The second phase of the China-aided Cambodian Rural Water Supply Project was handed over and inaugurated on 9 December in Kampong Ching Yang, Cambodia. Wu Guoquan, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, handed over the project handover certificate with Cambodian Rural Development Minister Ulaben at the ceremony.

The second phase of the China Aid Cambodia Rural Water Supply Project was built by China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd., and the Chinese management company was China Urban Construction Research Institute Co., Ltd. Construction began in November 2019 with a two-year construction period of 54 ponds and 964 pipe wells in 10 provinces of Cambodia.

Ulaben is deeply grateful to the Chinese government and people for their assistance to the project, believing that the project is of great importance to promoting Cambodia's rural economic development and improving people's livelihood. Ulabhan praised the Cambodia-China project team for successfully and efficiently completing the project under the COVID-19 pandemic. He said these wells and community ponds will help improve local living conditions, reduce poverty, promote rural economic growth and narrow the gap between urban and rural development.

Wu Guoquan introduced that the first phase of the China-aided Cambodian Rural Water Supply Project began construction in 2017 and is the first batch of localization projects implemented by the Chinese government in Cambodia. In the past four years, the Chinese government has helped 16 provinces in Cambodia to build more than 1,800 deep-water wells and nearly 130 community ponds, effectively solving the shortage of drinking water sources and water sanitation problems for rural people, improving the level of community epidemic prevention, and improving the quality of life and production conditions of villagers. He said that with the deepening of the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Cambodia, there will be more people's livelihood projects implemented, and there will be more "springs of benefiting the people" and "springs of friendship" in the future.
