In every film, George Lucas strives to introduce Star Wars fans to a new world. Last time I introduced you to the planets that appeared in the new trilogy, let's take a look at which planets were designed for the audience in the original trilogy today.
While much of the familiar environment should have largely stabilized by the time it comes to the sequel trilogy, George Lucas, while in charge of the Star Wars series, always likes to introduce New Worlds to Star Wars fans in each movie. According to Bob Eagle in his memoir Journey of Life, Lucas was disappointed by this performance in The Force Awakens.
The original trilogy takes viewers to iconic planets and moons such as Tatooine, Hoth, and Endor. Some of the Star Wars worlds in the original film are more memorable than others, and the planets are more important to the story.
Yawen IV
As Luke, Leia, Han, and Chui fled the Death Star and returned with the rebels blowing it up, they stopped at Yavin 4 to listen to a mission briefing.
Yawen IV is the fourth moon of the giant gas planet Yawen, a wet, jungle-covered moon, and although this moon has played a pivotal role throughout Star Wars history, its role in the film's plot is largely limited to the rebels as a gathering place.
Audrand
Leia's home star, Audran, appears to appear only on screen in the film and is eventually blown up. Darth Vader and Governor Tarkin threaten to blow it up in order to intimidate Leia into revealing the location of the rebels' secret base, and although Leia has to confess the secret, they blow it up to show off the power of the Death Star.
Audran's appearance in the film may have been intended only to be destroyed, but its destruction greatly increased the risk of conflict between the rebels (especially Leia) and the Empire. Now, the Empire is not just an oppressive force that rules the galaxy with an iron fist; And it gave rise to Princess Leia's private hatred for them, as they killed all the people she had ever loved.
Dagoba
At the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back, Kenobi's Force Body suggests that Luke travel to Dagoba to be trained by Yoda, the only surviving Jedi. When Kenobi went into hiding in Tatooine after the Great Jedi Purge, Yoda left the Empire further away for the mist-shrouded swamp of Dagoba.
While it is very likely that the Empire could find Obi-Wan in Tatooine, it was impossible to find Yoda in Dagoba. There is an atmosphere of mystery around Dagoba, as even its most eerie corners are shrouded in a thick layer of fog, where the only creatures are terrifying monsters lurking in dark lakes. Luke sees disturbing images of the Force in a cave in Dagoba, foreshadowing a major turn for the Empire's father.
Endor
The opening scene of Return of the Jedi takes Star Wars fans back to the familiar desert environment of Tatooine, but the climactic part takes them to a whole new world, the Endor Forest Satellite. Han, Leia, and Chui travel to Endor to shut down the shield energy while the rebels prepare to blow up the Empire's new Death Star, where Luke confronts Vader and the Emperor.
Some fans find Endor's Native Ewuks annoying for a simple reason, because while talking teddy bears are naturally cute, trying to defeat the power of the Empire with sticks and stones is somewhat impractical.
Bespin
The climax of Empire Strikes Back takes place in the City of Clouds, an aerial city on the planet Bespin. The city's cloud-shrouded steampunk aesthetic creates the perfect atmosphere for the film's gloomy ending.
The shootout between the STORMtroopers and rebels here is purely genre fun, but the Frozen Room sets up a gorgeous neon backdrop for Vader's brutal showdown with the unprepared Luke.
Horse
The opening scene of "Empire Strikes Back" allows the audience to re-immerse themselves in a muddy world of distant galaxies, where the rebels have carried out a long mission on the icy planet Ofhorse. The snowfields are a great backdrop for battle scenes, and the rugged terrain gives the design team the opportunity to create unique vehicles, such as the AT-AT Walker.
The harsh weather and extreme temperatures forced the rebels to take extreme measures, even sleeping inside the body of a camel, a planet full of unforgettable monsters like the Wampa who dragged Luke back to the cave.
Tatooine
The most iconic planet in the Star Wars universe is undoubtedly Tatooine, and at the beginning of the first film in 1977, C-3PO and R2-D2 landed on Tatooine to deliver a message to Obi-Wan-Kenobi. Perhaps not the most visually exciting planet in a distant galaxy, Tatooine was influenced by Frank Herbert's vivid description of Aracis in the Dune novel, but it's the planet that most evokes fan nostalgia. Fans especially love the Mosesley Spaceport, a lawless frontier derived directly from a western region, especially the bar, a shady bar packed with gunboy hunters.
Narratively, Tatooine's dreary landscape is a springboard that allows us to travel through many very different worlds and embark on interstellar adventures, with the point being that Luke fed up with the barren wasteland he grew up in and dreaming of traveling to space and discovering new places.
