According to the "Hindustan Times" reported on the 5th, according to relevant sources, late Saturday, Indian security forces shot and killed at least 12 civilians, resulting in continued tension in Nagaland.

On Sunday, the Nagaland government set up a High-Level Special Investigation Unit (SIT) to investigate the killing, which is believed to have been caused by an identification error. The Indian army, on the other hand, set up a Court of Inquiry (COI) to find out why the operation failed.

A statement released by India's Ministry of Defence expressed regret over the killing of civilians, saying it involved a counter-insurgency operation based on credible intelligence claiming the presence of militants on the ground. A statement issued by the Command of the Indian Army's Third Army said: "This incident and its consequences are deeply regrettable. The cause of this unfortunate civilian death is being investigated at the highest level and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law. ”

The Hindustan Times said it tried to contact police and security forces in order to obtain details of the incident and exact casualty figures, but did not receive a reply.

The report pointed out that the incident occurred on the evening of Saturday (4th), and some workers had an accident when they drove home from the coal mine. The vans they were travelling in were allegedly shot by the Indian army. The military explained that it had previously received reports that local rebels had tried to launch an attack on the army at the scene of the incident, and that the military had been sending troops to lurk for a week, resulting in accidental injuries. At least six workers died in the first fire, people familiar with the matter said.

After the incident, angry villagers rushed to the scene and set two military vehicles on fire. Indian security forces opened fire again to "control the situation," killing at least seven villagers and one security officer. Locals claimed that nine other villagers were injured in the second fire.

The Indian Army's Third Army Corps Command confirmed: "Security forces personnel were seriously injured in this incident (the villagers' retaliation), and one of the soldiers died of his wounds. ”
