In order not to be completely annihilated by Japan, the Kuomintang government chose to make Chongqing the capital of the country. However, at the beginning, most of the nationalist commanders did not go directly to Chongqing.
Their top brass gathered more in the Wuhan area, which made it easier to direct the nationwide war of resistance, which also made the Japanese think of taking Wuhan. However, Wuhan is a majestic city, and where it can be captured so easily.

The Japanese army was unfavorable, because there was no relevant map, the Japanese advance team that was not familiar with the terrain actually got lost in the Wanjialing Mountains! This gave the Nationalist army more time to dispatch troops, and after the Nationalist army basically arranged the deployment of troops, the battle began on the mountain of Wanjialing.
Hundreds of thousands of people opened fire everywhere in this mountain, and the whole mountain was filled with the sound of gunfire. The 106th Division had not taken it seriously at this time, and they were ready to use the method of attacking a tough battle to forcibly attack the big and small Jinshan, and then divide and encircle the Nationalist army.
As a result, the 90th Division of the Nationalist 4th Army did not retreat here, and the Japanese army, which had been unable to attack for a long time, had to divide its troops into two ways: one way to the west, hoping to bypass the Nationalist defenders, but it was stopped by the new 13th Division of the Nationalist Army.
Another Japanese team continued to use the method of onslaught to attack the Biantan Mountain near the big and small Jinshan Mountains. It is hoped that the national army on the big and small golden mountains will be isolated. However, what they did not expect was that the nationalist troops on the Bian Dan Mountain were "die-hard elements" one after another.
The defender on the biandan mountain was the 90th Division Zhang Tuanchen Camp, which was the first part of the Fourth Army of the Northern Expeditionary Army, and was known for its bravery in battle and fearlessness in its early years. Moreover, at that time, they had written a suicide note before going up the mountain, and they were ready to die together in the mountain to serve the motherland!

Seeing that such a small hill could not be beaten down, the Japanese army actually threw poison gas bombs into the mountain in a frenzy! Then they like to rely on brute force to fight, and if they are defeated by the enemy when they use brute force, they will take out things like poison gas bombs.
In the Battle of Wanjialing, they used poison gas bombs many times, and the Nationalist army at this time did not have gas masks at all. They either go to the corpses of Japanese people to pick up gas masks, or if there is no one to pickpocket, they can only resist.
In the end, Chen Ying fought the Japanese army to the death in the poisonous fog, and more than 500 people were all sacrificed on this hill. At this time, the Japanese army knew that they had fallen into the inferior position, so they were ready to concentrate the scattered forces and launch a fierce attack on Zhang Gushan, hoping to break through from here.
However, of course, Xue Yue couldn't spit out the fat meat in his mouth. At this time, he sent the 74th Division of the Anti-Japanese Iron Army to forcibly resist the onslaught of nearly 10,000 Japanese troops. After the 58th Division of the 74th Army fought with the Japanese army for several days, the 10,000-strong team only had more than 500 people left alive! Fortunately, the 51st Division of the 74th Army arrived in time and joined the battle in place of the 58th Division.
At this time, the Japanese army occupied a commanding height north of ZhangguShan, and Wang Yaowu, commander of the 51st Division, could not seize it several times. At this time, his subordinate Zhang Lingfu proposed to attack the Japanese army with the main force of the 51st Division, and at the same time send a group of brave and good commandos to sneak up on the Japanese army.
Wang Yaowu greatly appreciated this! And it was handed over to Zhang Lingfu to carry out this task. While the 51st Division was engaged in a fierce battle with the Japanese, Zhang Lingfu led his assault squad and climbed up from the cliffs of the back mountain.
In the middle of the night, gunshots suddenly sounded in the rear of the Japanese army, and the Japanese troops who were attacked on their backs were soon in chaos! Finally, the Nationalist army took the commanding heights occupied by the Japanese army, thus cutting off the only hope of the Japanese army to retreat.
