The sea breeze blows and the waves echo. On November 20th, the three-day second IM Cross-Strait Youth Film Festival came to an end in Pingtan, Fujian Province. The film festival was initiated by Straits Television and co-sponsored by Fujian Film Bureau, Fujian Provincial Radio and Television Bureau, Fujian Provincial Radio, Film and Television Group, and Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Zone Management Committee.

With the goal of supporting the image creation power of young people in colleges and universities on both sides of the strait, im cross-strait youth film festival integrates short film forums, screenings, master classes, training camps and commendation conferences. Compared with the first film festival, this year's scale is larger and more extensive, with a total of 290 institutions registering for the competition and receiving 1376 entries. Among them, there are 26 universities in Taiwan with 103 entries. In the end, 36 feature films and 14 non-feature films, totaling 50 short films, were shortlisted, and won awards for Best Picture, Jury Award, Best Director, Cutting-edge Drama and Non-Drama Short Film, Excellent Short Film, and "Insisting on the Spirit of Exploration" and "Most Creative Works".

The judges participating in the film festival believe that the overall level of this year's entries has greatly improved compared with the first one, showing the broad perspective and mature expression ability of young filmmakers. The award-winning works present a variety of faces, including films that reflect the inner world of people with disabilities and the style of ethnic minorities, as well as films that tell the life of studying in the United States and the lives of young people in Israel... Young filmmakers turn their creative perspectives to social reality and write more grand and profound propositions of life and the times.

In this year's film festival, a number of Taiwanese works have been shortlisted for many awards and won awards, which is eye-catching. Among them, Gao Shiwen, a graduate of the Film Research Institute of National Taiwan University of the Arts, was awarded the best director for "Good Student Ah Qiang", reflecting on the impact of stereotypes and labeling on teenagers. Liang Lulu, who arrived at the film festival site with 7 Taiwanese student works and broke through the barrier of the epidemic, said that young directors in Taiwan cherish the film festival, and she has been immersed in the exhibition works for 3 consecutive days, constantly giving immediate feedback to young directors in Taiwan through social media, "Every benign interaction and affirmation will make young directors go further in the future."

As the largest youth film exchange activity between the two sides of the strait, the IM Cross-Strait Youth Film Festival has provided a broad stage for cross-strait youth exchanges and film and television cooperation through a variety of activities, adding vitality. Zeng Xianghui, secretary of the party group and chairman of the board of directors of Fujian Radio, Film and Television Group, said: "This film festival is of great significance to deepening the integration and development of the two sides of the strait and promoting the unity of hearts and minds. It is hoped that through the holding of a series of activities, we will provide suggestions for the integration and development of the film and television industry on both sides of the strait and contribute to the future of Chinese film and television. ”

According to reports, as a support plan for young creators of film and television majors in colleges and universities on both sides of the strait, the support fund of this film festival is as high as 3.245 million yuan, which is the highest prize money for the global short film festival. Among them, the best film support fund of the "Qilin Commendation" unit is 300,000 yuan, which is the driving force for attracting the participation of many young creators. This generous prize comes from Pingtan's reward and compensation policy for promoting the development of cross-strait film and television industry cooperation.

In recent years, under the general trend of the strong development of Fujian's film and television industry, Pingtan has adhered to high standards and high-level planning, and has successively issued a series of preferential policies such as the "Implementation Opinions on Promoting the Development of Cross-Strait Film and Television Industry Cooperation (Revised Edition)", "Pingtan International Tourism Island Film and Television Industry Master Plan", "Pingtan Film and Television Policy Twenty Articles (Revised Edition)", highlighting the characteristics of Taiwan, highlighting marine advantages, and promoting the rapid agglomeration of film and television industry elements from taxation, landing, film and television works, cross-strait film and television cooperation and other aspects.

"Film creation, persistence is very important. Regardless of age and other factors, be firm with yourself, let time test, to prove. Wang Xiaoshuai, chairman of the jury and director of the main competition unit of the IM Cross-Strait Youth Film Festival, sent a message to the young filmmakers who won the award. He hopes that with the support and recognition of the film festival, more new directors can complete their works and continue to shoot. (Reporter Zheng Na)
